Apple/MAC has their own software so alot of things are not compatible with mac.. However it will work with a PC.. just fine, Fostex has their FDMS-3 formats that's their own software for their products but it is compatible with PC.. macs and apple computers you might need something else

Yes to your answer about the 16 tracks everything your put in will be the exact same when you take it out.. as for the backup media.. I would say JAZ drives cuz you will have less maintence..but dats are more common than jaz drives and sound better due to ADA conversion.. How you every thought...

Well I think the Alesis you can record all 24 tracks at one time unlike the D2424LV you can only do 8.. but I have no idea why it's cheaper than the other unless there is more features to it.. some kind of software? or compatibilties?

If it has Fibre-optic (adat) I/O you can transfer your music thru that.. if not then you can go the slow 2 trk I/O route.. How about SCSI?

I would purchase a mixer so you can adjust the level volumes, to get a good mix.. THen I would just plug my CDR into the 2trk in and out on my mixer and your set..
