    I need an amp

UpstateSteve is building and selling class A handwired tube amps. These things are amazing, one was demo'ed at Jamfest '04 and Treeline bought one about a week ago and loves it. Talk to Steve and/or Glenn, I doubt you'd be disappointed.

    SRC........... how?

I'm using Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 XL, and I've purchased their MP3 encoder. We record at 24/96, but the encoder doesn't accept that format, in my software I can change the format, but only the bit depth not the sample rate. In order to get to the point where I can make an mp3 I have to...

They must have done it with Bonaham for a reason

that's what I said after I heard it. A few days ago we recorded a jam hoping to find some seeds for new songs in it somewhere. So we mic'd the guitar cab, ran the bass DI and put just two mics on the drums, a D112 on the kick and an LDC as an overhead. Last night we listened back thru, and I was...

    Madison Speakers??????????????

Anyone know about these? I'm looking at a cab with two Madison "symphony" 12 inch speakers, I've read some good reviews and another not so good. I don't usually trust reviews on websites as they tend to look more like marketing than honest consumer advice. BTW I'm not a gutarist but the studio...

    Click track with a band?

A click is essential, if a drummer can't play to a click he should not be a studio drummer. I can say this because I was that drummer until recently. It can feel really awkward at first but it has made me a MUCH better drummer. Getting back in the groove on time after fills, not rushing...

Giving up on DI (determining cable gauge)

Thanks Boingo!! So it's length of run that's the deciding factor? I would have thought it was ampheres, watts, ohms or any other word electricians use    . You gonna let me know when and where you're doing a sound gig in Burlington or South of? I'd be happy to come...

Giving up on DI (determining cable gauge)

Giving up on DI, Somewhere along the line I was advised to record "dry and add FX "in the box", well, with the plugs I can afford it just sounds ..........well.......fake. Maybe if DI is the only option then it's best to record clean and add fx after but isn't it still preferable to mic an...

    Playing to a click.

we use cakewalk Home Studio 2004 XL AKA "Sonar Lite", we set up a midi track of 1/4 notes the length of the project and select an appropriate instrument from the drum map, usually cowbell or wood block, something loud and clear with a sharp attack.

    overtone in ride

please do not tape your cymbals!I beg of you Please do not tape your cymbals. or you'll never learn how to play them. It could very well be a technique thing, or a stick issue. To get a good ping out of your ride without excessive wash you need a good sharp attack with the tip. Do not let...

    recording drums with SM57

As I understand it,phasing occurs when the sound waves from a single source hits two mics at differents times in such a manner that the diaphragm of one mic at its peak and the other at it's trough, thus in whole or part cancelling the signal. Oversimplified of course, just like me.

Is the MXL V67G the best LDC for less than $100 for vocals?

The best answer..........it depends. The V67g is a good bang for the buck, but not for every voice. Best Idea, find a music store with a liberal return policy, (G.C, Daddy's, ETC.) buy a couple, the V67g, a SPB1, maybe even a dynamic or two (sm57 can be a good vocal mic in some cases) use...
