    Drywall questions

SORRY about my "abrevs"! Yes Glass Fibre (correct spelling!) and Rock Wool. Glad you like my "riser diss board" idea, you can do the same with GOBOs* ? Have mains and audio panels on the inside, anything that minimizes cabling on floors has to be a good thing in my book. Robs point about sound...

    Drywall questions

To some degree walls are the easy bit! The ceiling and roof can leak a lot of sound and you cannot just go gaily adding mass there without consulting a structural engineer. "Foam to isolate the floor"? How so? the floor need to be totally decoupled from the walls with proper elastic joist...

    Win 11 Taskbar

ALways pleased to hear from you Ray but...bit "chocolate teapot" mate! Dave.

    Win 11 Taskbar

How do you MOVE the fekker!? I have just installed Reaper on this Lenovo E590 laptop and some of the settings are buried in the taskbar. In Win 10 you just "grabbed" the bar and threw it to the side. Don't work for W 11. Don't like 11, forever popping ***t up. VERY distracting. Dave.

Audacity? Equipment? or am I missing something?

Yes Audacity is very handy to have but limited and its main limitation is that it cannot use the Focusrite ASIO drivers. Reaper can. There will be a learning curve, always is with any DAW but an evening's study should get you able to do most of what you want. Reaper is also a huge "community"...

NEWBIE - Equipment Recommendations - Recording Electric Guitar Cabs

Wrong! DO jump in! The ONLY way to do this is "to do it". For recording guitar cabs all you need is a mic (a 57 is fine but there are zillions of dynamics at a third the price than will serve) an interface and a DAW. I of course agree with Rob A, he da man! I would put in one note of caution? I...

Need help setting up lynx hilo 2 to my equipment

"Mic into preamp into compressor into hilo 2 into pc via thunderbolt 3? Is that correct" Well. K.I.S.Sir, forget the compressor for now. What mic into what preamp? And feed the pre amp into line inputs on the Lynx. I assume you have got the Hilo to playback stuff? DAW? Dave.

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

    One word: Reamper. Dave.

Need help setting up lynx hilo 2 to my equipment

Might I suggest you contact Lynx? Such a high end audio company SHOULD have a highly motivated team of people ready to help their customers IMHO. I am "slumming it" with a MOTU M4 but the guys there are super helpful (and, has to be said, NI not so much!) If they are not willing to guide you...

    Tascam recorder advice

This: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/tascam-model-12 is pretty much what the Portastudio has morphed into? It records to an SD card or a computer and even has MIDI ports by crickey! Dave.

    Tascam recorder advice

As others have said, I would go for an interface and computer. Assuming you have some sort of a computer (not a dinky phone!) I suggest you install Cockos Reaper and have a play with headphones? You might also find the free Cakewalk by Bandlab interesting. Dave.

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

Your computer can be an excellent signal source. Even the 3.5mm headphone output should be of near CD quality but a very basic interface would be even better and give you jack outputs. Look at the basic Behringer UMC series? Audacity can be all the software you need and will play radio...

PMT Chain in UK closes with immediate effect.

My stuff arrived a few hours ago but I have ****** up a bit. I had assumed the USB C hub would have a C to A adaptor. Not so, 3 now on order. FYI Anker 332. Dave.

PMT Chain in UK closes with immediate effect.

That is not my experience in UK with Amazon Rich. I have ordered 3 items in the last 3 weeks and all have arrived within 4 days as promised and one came next day on a Sunday. I am presently waiting on a USB hub and card reader which are promised today and I am pretty confident. I don't have...

PMT Chain in UK closes with immediate effect.

About a week ago I drove a few miles to visit "PC Supplies" on an industrial estate just outside my town. Really nice helpful guys and I wanted a USB hard drive, couple of ,memory sticks and some DVD-R media. All they had was one 32 G stick. The chap explained that they can't compete with...

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

I don't usually suggest this these days because cables are now so cheap and so good from online suppliers that it is not worth doing for small quantities but, making your own cables, en masse CAN get you a better product a bit cheaper but also sharpen up your soldering skills no end! You don't...

I bought a crazily cheap 'Neumann' TLM103 and it's really decent!

Don't know R D, he only ever gives me the barest amount of information (KIDS eh!??) but from other recordings I would say the mic was very roughly 1/2 to one mtr from his guitar. His flat in Le Havre seems fairly dead and I often add a bit of reverb but not in this case. Warts an'all this one...

    hello, newbie recording audiobook

Not sure where we are with this but Tim, you did mention a "possible loss of quality" if you need to re-record the Substack audio? I can tell you that Audacity can easily be configured to record the signal going through the internal sound card and is thus AS good quality as what you are hearing...

My son has just sent me this piece of Bach he has recorded with one of the cheapo 103s. Thanks again Rob. Dave.
