Akai X-150D - interesting issue I've never encountered before

Have you got an oscilloscope? It might be interesting to see if a recorded sinewave is playing back reasonably steady, or if the wavelength is actually changing. Bonus points if you can put the line out on top and the headphones out below it.

    Tascam TSR-8 to 4 Bus Mixer Set-Up

Sadly the TSR-8 doesn't do that - in my experience, TASCAMs tend to mirror inputs in groups of 8, so the MSR16 can do that, e.g. echoing 1-8 to 9-16 and the MSR-24 can also echo 1-8 to 17-24, but the TSR-8 doesn't have provision for this. I made up a pair of 4-way splitters so input 1 would be...

MSR-16 can't remember where zero was

That would be my guess as well. If there was a problem with the tach signal itself I would have expected other symptoms, so slippage would make the most sense.

    Tascam TSR8 rack ear drawing

I think this was 2006, so so I'm not sure, but I think the ears I used were intended for a Soundcraft Spirit. I do remember getting the new holes slightly wrong and having to whittle them into shape. If I did it again I'd probably use a piece of paper held up to the deck and poke holes in it...

    Tascam TSR8 rack ear drawing

I got some ears for something else and drilled new holes to match the TSR-8.

Otari Mx 5050 tape machine STILL wont switch from 2 track to 4 track. Tips?

Glad to hear you fixed it! I had a lot of "fun" repairing a D550 synthesizer with a cracked PCB on the control panel recently. Needed about 9 jump wires to bypass the damage, but it works nicely now.

Tascam TSR-8 V Fostex 16 track Half inch tape

You should probably avoid the G16S as the Dolby-S chips are known to fail. If it's the Dolby C version (e.g. E16, G16) it should be okay, but do check the condition of the heads as you may not be able to replace them. As others have said, the TSR-8 is likely to give you better sound quality, but...

Tascam 38 problems with Cue Lever

AFAIK the cue lever is only for fast-forward and rewind modes, it doing nothing in PLAY mode is probably normal. The idea is that normally two metal posts pull the tape away from the heads during fast wind to stop it wearing them down. The cue lever allows you to move the tape closer to the...

    Tascam m520 & teac 85-16

If it's playing back from the tape louder than it went in, that generally means that it's not set up for the type of tape you're using. It would have been factory set for SM911 (Ampex/Quantegy 456), so the playback levels will be off it you use SM900 instead. However, the mismatch between the...

    Alesis Micro Limiter Issue :(

There's a reversed-engineerd schematic for it here: Alesis - MicroLimiter - freestompboxes.org EDIT EDIT: First thing, make sure the wall-wart is actually putting out 9V AC or thereabouts. I'm not seeing the bypass circuit, but if we assume it's a true bypass like my MicroGate, the problem...

Steer on Teac A3340 Vid or Thread

If you mean that the left reel is rotating the wrong way, it will do that if you start it while there's no tape on the machine. This is to provide tension during playback and fast-forward. If you do have tape loaded and it is still doing this (and spilling tape), there may be an actual...

MS-16 30 to 15ips conversion (or vice versa)

The service manual lists the voltages for the components in the back (and yes, it confirms that those resistors are 47 Ohm and 750 Ohm). C10 and C21 are 100V mylar capacitors (I think even 50V would smoke those op-amps so that's way overkill). C42 is polyester and it's also rated 100V. EDIT...

MS-16 30 to 15ips conversion (or vice versa)

Generally if there's no modifier such as K or M, that means it's just in Ohms. (I have checked, 47 and 750 Ohm resistors are definitely a thing) EDIT: If you want to double-check, see what the values of the existing resistors are: if we're reading this right they should be 150 and 390 Ohms...

    Tascam PSU Question

If you've got the console and need a PSU for it, might be worth asking at Studio Systems - The Soundtracs of Your Life - see if they can make you a compatible Blue Dog power supply.

TASCAM ATS-500. The Otari runs as master, just providing timecode. The TSR-8 follows. I usually record the vocals and bass on the TSR-8 using its auto-punch-in features and dub it to the Otari when I'm happy with it, using the synchronizer. Way back when I was using two TSR-8s, but having to...

Things that you do when you suck

Lots of attempts and punchins. If I'm really struggling, slow the recorder down and switch key. On one occasion the bassline was so far beyond my ability that even that didn't help, so I broke it into two parts and recorded it over two tracks. YouTube (I actually captured this happening on...
