    RME FF800 won't lock to Behri ADA8000

I can't believe that you used the terms Behringer and RME in the same sentence!:p Tim

    PT 003R question

Heavy Metal with a very large drumkit, including 2 mics on each kick, and more than 1 mic on the snare. If, for example, I wanted to mic each drum, I could eat up 15 mic's (12 piece drumkit - from 6" mounted tom to a 20" Floor tom + 1 extra mic on snare, and an extra on each kick) and that is...

$3,000 budget. How do I spend it?

I was either going to buy the Alesis 8 line ins to ADAT out rack units and just use those to convert the signal from my mixer and a few mic pres to ADAT, or perhaps get an Octane or something along that line. Tim

$3,000 budget. How do I spend it?

Come on man, give me a break. I haven't really been able to figure out what will work best for me. There is so much gear out there, that I'm just not sure where to start. I considered kicking out $1600 and getting the Mackie Onyx 12 or whatever that thing is called and just using that and a PC...

$3,000 budget. How do I spend it?

I don't need a Surface controller. I can add that later. Some kind of Mac and Logic Pro 8? Most of my friends are using Sonar and Dualcore PC's, so I'm considering that. I looked at Protools LE with an 003R, and while I dislike the fact that I can't record 24 signals in at one pass - I...

Old peavey mixers any good? $100 for 16 channels....

I know, I want an AMR. I'm fine with the EQ on it because I mainly just use the on board EQ's for cutting - if I'm going to boost - I normally will patch in a parametric because I know I'll be using a batter EQ for it. A local club had an AMR back in the late 90's and I wanted it so badly. Tim

Old peavey mixers any good? $100 for 16 channels....

Unless it is an AMR mixer - which it obviously isn't (as far as I know, the AMR was like a 24x8 or a 32x8 or something like that), I wouldn't mess with it for recording. A Behringer would probably less noisy. Peavey gear is great for the working musician who is playing clubs - it's heavy...

Techniques for Freddie Mercury/Queen high vocals?

I read that they triple-tracked 17 vocal tracks to get the voices that thick on Bohemian Rhapsody. Are you talking about Roger Taylor's super high feminine range voice? Purchase "Raise Your Voice" by Jaime Vendera. It will teach you how to train your vocal chords to be able to get up there...

    PT 003R question

Okay guys - I'm thinking about finally stepping into the world of Pro Tools. What are the maximum number of Channels I can record live - in one pass - using the 003R? Can I use multiple 003R's in one PT set up? (i.e., can I use 3 of them for 24- mic pres/channels in?) I want maximum...

Fake drums are sounding very real

The problem is, half the time - the drummers parts are cut and pasted. I know a sound engineer who works in ProTools (and makes a ton of money btw) and he literally cuts and pastes entire drumtracks. He finds one snare sound he likes, and lays it in over every snare strike. Essentially...

So tell us again why you are moving to this slightly more upscale neighborhood? Sorry, but the studio wins over the neighborhood anytime with me. Tim

    Drum Triggers- Friend or Foe?

Triggering is just as dynamic as playing with mic's. What you are hearing is the player's fault. It is how they have set their input sensitivity and the dynamic range. You can have it every bit as dynamic as if you are playing on a regular acoustic kit, or you can have it set so that every...

Can we say Scorpions!?!?! LOL Dieter Dirks was well known for that. Talk about CONSTRUCTING a drumtrack. Tim

    Drum Triggers- Friend or Foe?

AMEN! I Love Triggering. Live it has saved my ass so many times it isn't funny. One of my Favorite Drummers - Scot Columbus was one of the first metal Drummers to go totally triggered live - it just saves so much time that it isn't funny, you can deliver the same drumsound every night, no...

    Drum Triggers- Friend or Foe?

Why? Tons of bands use triggering. I first got into electronic drums back when you really only had 1 or 2 options for them - Simmons was the big name back then, and everybody using them started developing "Tennis Elbow" because you were literally hitting on a piece of plywood with rubber glued...

Van Halen "I'll wait" drum toms

Bwahahaha. That cracks me up. There is a BIG difference between those rototoms and those crappy black cast aluminum ones. That set is made from chromed steel and is a million lightyears beyond the black ones. I've got a full set of the chrome ones and they are killer sounding. And to stay on...

    grip posture

He sounds every bit as good as Steve Perry did on that; I have to say, it shocked the hell out of me, but then again, tons of musicians are great singers and they go unknown as singers. Remember the Coors Light commercials with the guy with the raspy voice singing "Coors Light, It's the right...
