    Difference between drum heads...

Amen! I love drums tuned higher, you get those babies singing like the Big band guys had and it is gorgeous! Tim

    Difference between drum heads...

Hey watch it now!:p Fiberskyns are great in the right situation. Personally, for hard rock of any type, I like Pinstripes. I love the sounds of Ambassadors on toms, but just for the fact that i don't have to put anything on the heads o get the tom sound I personally like - I go with...

    bass drum - sm58 or akg c2000b

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to get a decent kick sound out of an Sm58 - I used one on the kicks both live and in home recording for well over 10 years. Tim

Anyone ever heard of sending songs to yourself for copyright?

I don't know what it would cost you, but you could take it to a Notary before you mail it to yourself. In all honesty, it's worth it in the US to send it in and get the legal copyright on it. Tim

I just can´t sing in tune

As somebody who has trained vocally, I'll give you a few tips. Buy a KRATT "Master Key" pitch pipe in the key of C. It will cost you around $15. Hum into it, until you get to the point where you can vibrate each note in key, then keep going up in pitch. Angle your head back about 5 to 10...

    lopsided drummers

My suggestion is: Quit worrying about a "stereo" split of the drum kit. Mic the kick and then mic the "groups of things" with overheads and then just make sure you aren't having phase issues. Tim

    is vista THAT bad?

I would have to disagree with you. I grew up around computers. We had one before a lot of people on here were born. My Dad was a Computer specialist and was trained by IBM back in the 60's, so he always pushed technology on my brother and I. Even as far back as 1980, we had a terminal in the...

    Practice kit setup.....Basic or elaborate?

I use a 10" Remo tunable pad on a stand. I have a piece of foam that I can put on it if I want utter silence. The foam is also good for completely absorbing the strike - so I actually have to "stick" each stroke - no bouncing - which is good for building your fingers up. Tim

    Who influenced your style?

For me, it's going to be Bonham, Ian Paice, Lee Kerslake (played on the first 2 Ozzy records) Tommy Aldridge, Bun E. Carols (Cheap Trick) and a guy named Leonard Haze who played in Y&T (Their first album is SMOKING! The guy is like the American Bonham - actually, I think he was better than...

    Kick Drum - Front Skin

Look for a local sign maker. Work out the logo you want, and then go have them do it with vinyl sticker material. It will look more professional in the long run. Or you can contact "Rocken Wraps" (owned by the drummer of Queensryche) they do kick heads for people. Tim

    criticism...how much is too much?

Practice the songs until everyone knows and can perform them like the back of their hands. Until you are at that point, you're not ready to record them. My brother and I always were perfectionists when it came to that. So, when my brother's band got signed, the label - Virgin - booked 3 weeks...

    Acoustic or Electronic

One option that might work for you: Buy him a small regular kit, get a set of ddrum triggers to put on it - put mesh heads on the kit, and get a sound source of some type - that way he'll have a real kit he can put regular heads on at a later date. Any of the decent economy kits will work...

    Acoustic or Electronic

How handy are you with tools? Do you or any of the guys you play with know how to solder? You can build your own pads for a whole lot less than you can buy them for. I'm going to give you guys a hint: a 12" will fit over a 5 Gallon bucket. LOL You can cut the bucket off about 4" deep (you...

    is vista THAT bad?

Man, I would NEVER trust using the same PC configuration that was being used for net use. I'm probably going to wind up with a Mac Mini because I want to use Logic. A friend has Sonar 7, but I don't want to be forced to use Vista. Hell, if I had my way - I'd be using something that worked...

Please help, might have got ripped off, Focusrite Saffire

Are you drawing your power from the Firewire port? If so, can it generate Phantom power from that? Just curious because I always assumed you had to have something like at least a wall wart to generate enough power for full Phantom power. Tim

Ludwig Supraphonic Metal Snare - Size?

    I completely agree. I prefer a 5" deep snare over a 6.5".

    is vista THAT bad?

Bill Gates doesn't "own" apple, but he does indeed own a large amount of it's stock. That's how Apple was able to survive - Wozniack and some of the other guys evidently teamed up with Gates, and they forced Steve Jobs out of his position....he still has a job with Apple, but he doesn't have the...

    is vista THAT bad?

What I would like to know is why Microsoft doesn't make a completely stripped down version for audio and video production. Nobody in their right mind should have their Recording PC connected to the net.... that is simply asking for trouble in my book. I would love to stay on a PC for...

    Exerscises to relieve pain

I would have to disagree. Thumb up is a French Grip, and it is good for very fast single strokes as well as really laying into the drum (think of holding a hammer - thumb is on the back of the hammer, or in this case - the stick). A lot of drummers have played with a French Grip - Bonham used it...
