They work well if you have a really good room, because you have to keep in mind that you're going to get the entire room in your stereo field rather than just the select area that a cardioid would pick up.
Personally, I don't like Omni's for home recording - I don't even own one! Why not? I've...
No, but I have used the Manley though.
One of my friends bought one not too long ago, and he was like,"I got a Massive Passive!" and I was scratching my head think,"Why?!?!" His studio is computer based, and my thinking is - if I were going to get outboard equipment for that - I'd b investing in...
Totally typical for me. Most of my songs are either "story" songs based on Historical or Biblical events, or Hard Rock Anthems. (I'm always after that "Big Rock Anthem". I can't help it - when I was a kid, Kiss and Alice Cooper were my heroes, and what I loved about them were their Anthems. You...
I'd say hang on to them. I mean, what else are you going to monitor through?
Just keep working the second job and save some money to put toward some acoustic treatment.... and maybe a few more quality mic's.
Tim
For some reason, I have never liked Passive EQ's. It's like th EQ section on an old Ampeg G4 guitar amp - it adds some color, but the tonal changes aren't drastic enough for me.
Tim
yep. Those old CS-800's are built like tanks.
Back in the 80's, everyone bitched about them, but you know what? It was mainly because people were underpowering their PA systems. They thought it was Peavey's fault, but the reality is - they needed about 4 times the power they were running.
400...
Just take a regular 4x12" cabinet and wire it for stereo.
You'll need 4 16-ohm speakers.
Wire them in parallel pairs to a pair of 1/4" jacks and you'll have two 8-ohm pairs of speakers. Make sure that you connect two 1/4" jacks to each pair of speakers, then you can make or buy a short speaker...
I've got an original 22" Rude ride that I've had since 1981.
I love the thing for Rock and Metal; it cuts through ANYTHING. It's just a hair heavy for lighter passages, so I've got a 20" Paiste Signature Full Crash that I use for light riding as well.
I didn't like the Rude Crashes or Hi-hats...
My personal opinion is look for a used Roland R8.
It's the best machine I've ever worked with.
I'm a drummer and have no problem using a machine to program my parts. Heck, I've been a long time endorse of triggers and electronics. It's all just different tools.
If you don't have the means to...
I didn't and I got tons of low end out of it.
In theory, any mic aiming back at the kit should be out of phase. So the kick mic(s), and if you mic a snare from beneath, should have a reversed polarity.
Tim
Lot's of us use them.
It's a speaker - usually a 6"-10" speaker on a frame that you put in front of a kick drum. You wire an XLR cable to it (positive to positive, negative to negative, and the ground to the frame of the speaker) Then you plug that into a
mic preamp.
It will pick up a ton of...
I would say it doesn't really matter if you are going to use it as if it is an analog machine. Just think of it as analog without hiss. LOL That's what I do. I use all the techniques I learned from analog recording, and I just use digital MTM's.
It's one thing if you are maintaining an all...
Don't shop for anew trigger, see if you can take that one apart and just replace the trigger element. You can get one for a few dollars.
Hell, I'll sell you 3 of the trigger elements for $10. :p
Tim
As a writer, singer, or actor?
LOL
As a writer he's okay, as a singer, eh- I could take him or leave him. As an actor I think he's pretty good.
I'm not charming, by the way.:p
To me, as somebody who repaired drums for 18 years, vintage insinuates that it is actually worth something. For...
