    I wish I...

Most of us don't live in soundproof caves. There are noises that need to be edited out of silent parts of tracks. No use or sense keeping tracks there that aren't contributing to the song. If there's any nearby traffic or any noises at all, you need to remove it. Oh. I forgot. You're...

    I wish I...

Stop it. Editing always has and always will be a part of the process. Just stop. You want to come here and hit stop when the vocals break for an interlude, then hit record again? Didnt think so. You will always have garbage stuff to clean up. Better has nothing to do with it.

    I wish I...

Seriously though. It can take me 2 full days. And it comes right after I'm in the "zone" of laying down the guitars and bass. So I have the sound in mind, am ready to mix, but nope... Gotta cut everything up and tidy it all up. Crossfades, melodyne, comping, man... Kills the flow.

    I wish I...

Yeah, I'll just hang in the back on the couch, legs up, having a drink...commenting every once in awhile. "Ehem, I can HEAR that splice..(sips drink)". My goal

How important are scales and theory in your guitar playing?

From 92'-96' I had subscriptions for Guitar World and other mags, and all for the tabs. I didn't see a reason to memorize notation, and tab is no different than it really. Just another set of symbols dictating a piece of music. I already know numbers - why memorize another set of keys? Is there...

    "Forgiven"

Listened to 9-16 mix. Much, much better. The song is breathing now. How are the guitars panned? Want to try moving the heavy pair out a little further? Maybe 75-100% L and R? If this were me, and I'm just guessing obviously I don't have this in front of me... but my fingers and ears would want...

    "Forgiven"

Something is being compressed very hard. I think it's the drums. I'd def fix that. The kick is suffering the most, in that regard. The kick is also very loud. Guitars sound very thin. I'm not sure the bass is complimenting them as much as it could be - just an eq thing. How have you EQ'd these...

    Slurpasaur - new VHS song

I want to try this soon - it's an amazingly catchy chorus.

When I write I am nore focused on my story than the music

Not really. It's very common. We actually talked about that recently in another thread.

    "Almost Forever"

Oh yeah that Slingerland snare is awesome! I've used it a number of times as well, though this sounds different with the ambience behind it. Did you know Andy Wallace famously used snare samples that had the ambience built into it? (jump to 7:20) YouTube Rick is a cool guy, had a few...

    Silver Glide

Is that Abbey Road verb on the vocals? Sounds really cool, I like it. I thought the snare was a little low... check out Johnny's latest track he posted and listen to the snare. I think this would benefit from an ambient snare like that too. I'm having a hard time following the drum rhythm in...

    "Almost Forever"

First off, that reverb/ambiance behind the snare is amazing. Is it across the kit or on the snare channel alone? Sound fantastic. The snare itself, with the guitar solos and arena-sound others mentioned, puts this more in 1986 than 2018... but hey, maybe that's the point and what you were going...

    Ok....Don't Laugh....Dumb Question

Yes, honestly nobody cares. I wouldn't hold it against someone for glancing at a sheet once in awhile. I wouldn't worry too much about it

    Silence - alternative pop rock

Same mix. I don't remix. I take what I learned from comments and suggestions, and my own opinions, and apply it to the next song. Sometimes I'll go back a year later or so and rerecord the song over again, if I feel I could recreate it better after learning some things. Anyway, nope, it's the...

    Ok....Don't Laugh....Dumb Question

This is what I was going to suggest. I'd usually throw a sheet with "VERSE: D, A, D, G CHORUS:" etc.. Fit a couple on a sheet, tape it to the floor, good to go.

    Slurpasaur - new VHS song

Yeah the remix definitely cleared things up quite a bit. I'm having a hard time deciphering the bass line, though. Well, I really like the chorus, though I think something should change there to give it a separate sound from the verse. It sounds like the same energy and nothing different. I...

    Silence - alternative pop rock

That's all it really is - noise. It's a more effective noise, in my opinion. I think it just carries a different energy than the hats or a ride do, though both have their place. I'm sure there's specific cymbals that are usually used for riding on, but I just pick the one with the least attack...
