    Alternative Pop Rock - Waiting

If anyone has any critiques of the mix, I'd love to hear it. Not too much to say about it at this point, but throwing it up here for any feedback on the technical side. Thanks! https://soundcloud.com/andrushkiwt/waiting I wonder, tonight, how much can I sleep? Can I dream awhile? I think I...

    CD Baby - thoughts?

Yeah. Maybe CDB gives a cut of sales to Apple or something for letting them put whatever they want on their site, aside from the fee Apple would normally take.

    CD Baby - thoughts?

I'm just saying, their own form for uploading music on iTunes is pretty strict. CDB doesn't require any of that, so it's kinda weird iTunes allows it. I don't know, I'm still figuring this all out.

    CD Baby - thoughts?

So anybody that pays through CDB can have their music on iTunes, regardless of quality? When doing it through iTunes, having a certified ME obv means that it will be of a decent quality... but if anyone can pay the cash and use CDB, isn't iTunes losing control in that regard? Anyone can do it, then.

    CD Baby - thoughts?

Ah ok, so I'll just bypass iTunes directly and work through CDB then. Sounds good, thanks. I don't have any Apple products, so that worried me as well... I needed an Apple ID and all that, which I don't have. CDB rocks, so far. Steenamaroo and Robus, did you end up using a single image for...

    CD Baby - thoughts?

I'm looking into getting it on iTunes. I see something about "approved mastering engineers" or something like that. CD Baby alone won't cut it, I need a larger access point. But otherwise it seems pretty cool so far. I need to finish the artwork, which'll be that picture I use on SC but with the...

    CD Baby - thoughts?

Decided on using CD Baby for putting up an album. Songs are all set, though I might give them all a once-over and readjust some things, for continuity's sake. For any of you that have used this site, do you have any thoughts or recommendations for the process? Anything I should know, anything...

"Like A Butterfly" acoustic folky original

Same. There's something really high pitched, little pops or lip smacks or both. And whatever is tapping at 1:20 isn't so great sounding. What is that?

Please help with my mix: Engagement Song

This is the first and most important issue. Any other mixing is just cleaning up around the bigger problem. Pitch is off in spots, the delay isn't synced appropriately, and the timing issues make everything worse. After those are fixed, I think it's just plain ol readjusting levels and panning.

    The Dream's Malfunction

Didn't read other comments. What have you done to the vocal EQ, if anything? Just wondering. Also, do you not like compressing the track much? Not saying you don't have any compression on the master, but just thinking it might make a better listen if it weren't as dynamic. (oh no! the devil!)...

November Snow ( good to have in the heat now :) )

Sounds great, some timing issues especially in the beginning, but a nice/full sound. Low end pretty good except for the kick, which is kind of hard to hear through the bass. Maybe look where they're stepping on each other, frequency wise. Nice track

Newbie Home Recording for Metal Sound

I moved from software amp sims to a pedal board a few months ago. Believe me, it made all the difference. Specifically, it's a DIGITECH GNX3000, though any of their boards are good. It contains amp/cab simulations within, and for whatever reason, is substantially better sounding than any amp sim...

    How do you cheat?

That's not just cheating... that's illegal!!! (sorry, had to get you back) :wtf:

    How do you cheat?

Oh come on now, wasn't meant to be taken literally. Having some fun :thumbs up:

    How do you cheat?

same. I'll compress my guitar bus as a whole about 2-3 db with the CLA76. As I add more guitars, I'll eventually need to turn down the compression, though. It gets to around 5-6 db after another set or two has been added... so, something I need to watch out for. Is listening for phase-issues...

    How do you cheat?

We learned to not mix anything in isolation - the listener doesn't hear anything that way, so mix it that way? - is the saying. But I'll admit the temptation to do so for some tasks is just TOO DAMN HIGH. :) The most frequent break of this "rule of thumb", for me, is the bass/drum kit...

    I wish I...

We are all agreeing it's housekeeping stuff. I dont see where anyone said anything other than that... Nor do I see where anyone took it as a dig at talent..it was about the near impossibility of recording any other sounds than those intending for recording. Things will happen. And we clean them up.

    I wish I...

I wish I had the guts to try a recording like Albini. Obviously, having virt drums makes that near impossible, but it would be cool to hear it without any synth or dry with added verb, as opposed to a great room sound. Yeah, had to edit for several hours, study for exams, then more editing...

    I wish I...

I completely agree with Miroslav. For once. ? I actually appreciate that you spend more time than that. It's what I least look forward to. And, like I said, it comes right when the creative stuff is flowing. Oh well. Its necessary. Just wanted to complain for no good reason.

    I wish I...

Each take requires an actual ear to know how soon or late to cut the fade. Perhaps a breath is useful in one spot, but an annoyance in another. It depends on tempo, singers' methods, and, ultimately the vibe of the song.
