Papa, for me Jimmy's recordings are definitely a case of performance rules! I've heard hundreds of acoustic recordings that were made with Class 1 equipment that don't hold a candle to these recordings. Simple, clean and pure.
Try using MME as the host rather than WASPI. I think that is the preferred driver.
Personally, I keep Audacity around for quick and dirty editing. For any recording, I go straight to Reaper. If you want a truly free DAW, go to Bandlab (Cakewalk or Sonar) or use the Ableton that came...
If you were working with a board of some type, or even a setup that came with line level inputs, it might make sense. A mic/inst preamp is the wrong tool!
Frankly I think all this "saturation" stuff has become a trendy fad. Everybody is wanting to add "saturation" and I would bet that 80% of...
I'm confused as to how you would put line level signals through a mic preamp or an instrument input (TOTALLY different impedance and levels), and how in the world would that "improve" anything that was already recorded.
Unless your just trying to distort the signal intentionally, I can...
I've never seen a picture of a Neumann capsule that color. All the photos I have ever seen of Neumann capsules are cream or ivory. I also don't see any of the typical replacment builders using yellow rings (Arienne, Peluso, Tim Campbell, Mic Parts, etc.)
The HV-35P only has one route... you either go with instrument or mic inputs, and only one output.
What I don't understand is why you don't just use the Motu's inputs. It's not like they are bad preamps. The Motu is an excellent unit.
If you are thinking about sending the XLR to one channel, and the Hi Z to a second, then it will depend on your interface. Something like the Scarlett Solo, Audient ID4 or Presonus Audiobox are actually 2 channel interfaces with one mic pre and one line/Inst channel. Most purely single...
Have you investigated X32Reaper? It might have the functions you're looking for. It supports 2 way communication so faders moved in Reaper can move the faders on the X32 and vice versa. It looks like you could enable automation on tracks, do a render in real time, and ride the faders...
Last pedal I bought was a JHS NotAKlon and a Series 3 compressor. The compressor was on sale, I think it was under $80. The NotAKlon it better than my Soul Food. Sound is good and noise level is lower than the Soul Food. I don't know if it sounds like a Klon, I've never had a Klon. It's...
You certainly don't need a $3000 mic and preamp for doing such comparisons. There are tons of comparison videos on Youtube that are made with far more common gear.
I recently watched a video where a signal was run through loopback and it took in most cases over a hundred decode/encode...
I couldn't believe how Hansen pulled off 1983 live. That side from Electric Ladyland is my favorite Hendrix album.
It reminded me of when Stevie Ray pulled off 3rd Stone from the Sun at El Macambo. Simply great!
This conversation made me think of one time when you probably want to get the sound close, and that's in a tribute band.
This guy is pretty good at being a chameleon.
John's actually a professor of music, and works with several tributes, Asia, Tull, Zepplin, Genesis.
I know...
Interesting track.. The intro vocal threw me for a loop. I don't know if I would have gone that direction. I might have done a fade in, maybe with a steady pan from one side, or a decreasing reverb for 2 bars. Or maybe a slapback echo on the first two phrases of vocals before the verse...
I would say "to make their music". Kenny's done pretty well for himself with lots of albums and tours under his belt. The same for Walter... he's done pretty well for himself. Heck he played for Mayall for about 5 years, and John was known for picking a few good guitar players in his time...
Oh yeah, for a current DAW, I always recommend Reaper. It's not expensive, you don't have to deal with the "annual subscription" crap, has a HUGE support network of users, and is kept current. Updates are free for two versions (current on 7.4, and you're to V8.99). It comes with a...
+1 on Rob's comments. If you haven't done recording like this before, you should walk before you run. You say you want professional sounding sound bites (not exactly sure what you mean here), but a LOT of professional guitar recordings were made with just an SM57. On the other hand...
Start at the first part... is the HIlo showing up in Windows as a Thunderbolt device and have you installed the driver?
From the Lynx page:
Windows
If you have not already installed the Thunderbolt driver, you will need to do so to allow the Thunderbolt device to be seen by the operating...
I think the new Model 12, 16 and 24 and newer Model 2400 are great for recording and live work, but they are more limited in their "in the box" mixing / effects capability vs the previous Portastudios like the DP24/32 or the 2488s. It's closer to a mixing board with audio storage and audio...
