    cheap mixer

I picked the Xenyx series over the older ones. But mine is the 2442Fx. Depends on how much money you got and what do you need it for.

    200$ DAW surface controller

I think that is going to be my X-mass present instead of the snake I was planning to get. Or maybe I'll grab the DMP3... Anyway, I'm buying sooner or later a surface controller for my Sonar/Nuendo. These are the options within my budget I found. The BCF2000 is the only one with 8 faders, but the...

Thinking of buying the Phonic Helix18FW

You might also check out Mackie's Onyx. They have a firewire card upgrade, and I have heard only good comments about them.

What mixer do you have and which do you love?

Behringer Xenyx 2442Fx. Also Tascam 414 mkII, but I can vote only once so, I'll stick with my mail mixer (behringer)

    Metal Mixing Standarts

Thanks guys. Actually I don't compress the hell out of all the tracks. It depends on the tracks. As you said kick and guitars need to be on front. I compress the kick, and then parallel compress it. Then I limit the kick track (just to reduce clips -2/-3 dB), I send all the drum tracks to a...

    Metal Mixing Standarts

Well I have actually tried removing bass from everything :) Just a little bit. I set a high cut with the waves eq, and I start moving higher the frequency until it removes a little bit of the fundamental, then I keep it in that frequency and make it a low cut. It has made my mixes a lot clearer...

    Metal Mixing Standarts

I recently saw someone in this forum talking about people who cuts everything between 80 Hz and 4 Khz on the kicks. Every style has it's own mixing standarts, but I'm not too familiar with the ones from metal. If a person doesn't like them that's a different matter. I personally don't base...

    Recording Band with Orchestra

Ok, here is another option, this time with more bucks. I changed the 16 ch mixer for a 24 ch mixer. Probably a Mackie 8 bus. And I still have the behringer 2442 FX for more channels, but this time I'm using it for less important tracks that don't need that much clarity. Here it goes: 24 Ch...

    Recording Band with Orchestra

As I told you earlier, I can't sent you a photo of the venue, since we haven't decided where it will be.:( It *might* be here, but it's way too early to tell. That is exactly my point. If I do a stereo take then I will have no control whatsoever over individual instruments. You said you have...

what would you recommend a one man band?

For my one man band I use Sonar, M-Audio Delta 1010Lt / Sound Blaster Platinum X-Fi and Behringer Xenyx 2442Fx. I only regreted my set-up when I found out that the Alesis Multimix 16 Firewire was at discount for 400$ at musiciansfriend.

    Recording Band with Orchestra

Thanks a lot again for your time and knowledge! :) The symphonic orchestra has about 30 violins, 10 violas, 6 cellos, 3 doublebasses, 2 per each wood (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon), 5-6 french horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 3 timpanis, bass drum, snare drum and cymbals. My band is 2 guitars...

Thinking of buying the Phonic Helix18FW

Did you check out the Alesis Multimix FW 16? A friend got the 8 channel Usb 1.1 versions, and is great. The one I posted has about the same features as the phonic I think. I have also been researching the analog mixer/firewire interface combo. But I decided not to upgrade, until someone puts DA...

Weird noise on Multimix Digital FX

Nevermind. I spoke with him today and he said it's working perfectly now :) Self-repair? Nice feature Alesis!;) Thanks anyway.

Who went to school for recording? Who hometaught themselves?

I recorded my band's first demo by myself. 100% trial and error. Then I studied musical production 2 years in argentina, right now I'm working on my thesis. I think recording is 100% practice. But schools are a good shortcut. You learn in 2 years what you would have learned in 10 years by yourself.

    Recording Band with Orchestra

Thanks again lee :) I wasn't reffering to you when I said bashing, I was refering to Tex's "clusterfuck". I really appreciate your experience, especially seeing how high your recording standarts are :) But as you probably know, symphonic black metal isn't a very accepted kind of music. There are...

Who went to school for recording? Who hometaught themselves?

Nice idea, but why don't you delete the thread, and start an identical one with a poll option to make it even more interesting? and I will go answer you there :)

Sgt pepper 4-tracks? Got em? I do...

Great! I'm downloading them now!! If anyone got any other multitracks please post it! I know there are some led zeppelin songs going around the net. Hopefully some pink floyd too :) Once I finish downloading I will record them on my tascam 414 mkII for mixing :D
