i can't say enough good things about the D6.
i do metal, folk rock, fusion, and i'm even working on a corny country song for the wife. i've never liked the 52, and the d112 is a good mic but i really love the d6.
i won't pretend to know what a d12 sounds like, but from what i've read it's...
possibly, but not likely since the max spl is 144 dB which is pretty decent. if anything, the mic's output would clip.
but it's a question of application. as a general rule, an LDC will pick up more detail and more high end than a dynamic will. this makes condensers more suited for OHs since...
google "recorderman" to find out what it is--it's a fantastic OH technique.
based on what you have, though, i'm not sure that's your answer. my starting point with those limitations would be:
put the e816s on kick, and put the 2020 out as a room mic. you could even try your peavey on snare...
i saw this when it aired on discovery several weeks ago. pretty cool stuff. they don't tell you it's a neumann, but obviously it is.
i just learned about the emblem's color coding on neumann mics in recording magazine last month. it's rare that they do anything worth reading these days, but i...
yeah, the cymbals can be easily pulled off and cleaned. i'd be way more concerned about getting soap scum all over my shells, hardware, and every nook and cranny in between.
is your room treated? if not, it won't matter if you buy behringers or genelecs. the speaker can give you as truthful a translation as its design, but if the room's a rotten liar, the monitor becomes moot.
that aside, the rp6 and rp8 are both very good choices. and yes, the sub is helpful but...
currently it tells me that the song is unavailable, not sure what's going on there.
in any case, those 451s are a fine choice for OH.
i used to use the spaced pair, and it was decent; i'm just happier w/ recorderman. when i did the spaced pair, it was pretty much what second skin is suggesting.
i wonder if the op is enjoying all this advice? :D
the consensus speaks for itself man. several of us have links to our music pages in our signatures if you need to hear for yourself (one caveat--the first song on my page is the only one i've posted since adopting recorderman, so don't judge...
yikes. yes.
edit: i took that to mean you're a full turn shy of finger tight, and just realized that perhaps you mean a full turn tighter than finger tight. if you meant the latter, that shouldn't be a problem in and of itself.
in that case, just use your existing heads and record your audio with a video camera microphone. :D
seriously though, are you talking about the live sound or the recorded sound of your drums? there will be a difference between the two. i use moon gels for live (unamplified) jam sessions, but...
if i'm interpreting your post correctly, you're not overly concerned with attack. are you going for a jazzier sound? based on what i can tell, you want coated heads. if you've never tried them before, i'd go this route first. you can always try something different next time around. hydraulics...
i find this a bit mystifying too. hell, i can barely tell the difference between a 7a and 5a (although the 5a is my go-to stick, promark nylon tip if you wanna get all specific about it). 2bn is as big as i'll go, and i maintain that the heaviest of metal requires no heavier stick than the...
not sure how "real" a company karma is, but the k-micros sell for a song.
can't think of anything mass-produced that's cheaper than the behris. $60/pair at ams. i thought of the samson c02H, but those are still $50 each.
