    How Do I Start Recording?

I confess I'm not quite sure what "too dry" or "dims the sounds" means-? Yeah that's kinda backwards from most recording techniques I know/heard of. As suggested above, record mono, mix/master stereo as appropriate. Also using the 58 with it's "omni style" grill could make a diff, esp if you're...

    What DAW are you using?

IMO Audacity though basic is underrated by a lot of DAW snobs. Surprised not a single vote for GarageBand; I got the impression it was very popular.

Tax deductions for your "music business"-?

Yeah, USA. I figured that was assumed since we're the center of the universe. ;) It didn't bore me, but in classic gov't fashion, it didn't clarify squat either. God I hate gov't. You would think tax laws at least would be specific and clear. Edit: they point you to this...

Tax deductions for your "music business"-?

Anyone done this or have more info or experiences? If I have a home studio set up in my house and am trying to sell my recordings, can I tax deduct part of my mortgage/utils (it would seem so based on what I'm seeing)? What about purchases to that end (gear etc)?

Suggested versatile keyboard for about $1000 give or take (hopefully less)

Forgot about this....thx again for the replies... The Yamaha no longer made (I won't buy used)...the Roland you're speaking of sounds like the DS88 I mentioned...? Anyway, had to put it on hold again. By the time I finally am ready to buy maybe something else will be out lol

    Taking a music production course

I looked at courses (mostly online) and my impression is they are silly expensive and a coin flip as to how much I'd really get out of them anyhow. There is still far (far) more I don't know than I do, but I don't want to put all that time/money into a course to listen to some guy go "OK today...

home recording versus hiring studio in eg nashville

Agreed. The appeal of not having to hassle with building your own home studio and the time/money it takes to learn enough to do even a respectable job is understandable, esp when you have "experts" on hand who already have that knowledge.......likewise for studio musicians......but over the...

First Mic: Too Many Mic Choices to Fit in Title. Help!

Nope. At least not as far as I can tell (granted most if not all of these guys know more and have done more than me so FWIW). IMO the 57 is the easy choice.

    Seeking Music Production software recommendations!

Many have free trial/etc versions you can try to get a feel for if you like or not. I'd start there. No idea why you'd care what artists you like use as it has nothing to do with whether it would work best for you...... g/l

    What DAW are you using?

Yeah that seems more or less true. I haven't tried all of these by any means but they seem a lot more alike than different.

    What DAW are you using?

Since the previous poll was started in 2006 and DAWs have changed SO much in that time. Lets see what people are doing now! ;) And what do/don't you like about it?

Can someone help me find the best DAW program for my specific needs???

Ask 20 people and you'll get 20 diff DAW recommendations ;) Personally I started with the highly-touted Reaper and found it rather unfriendly.....I suggest trying Mixcraft or even Audacity, which is much more basic but even easier to use and it sounds like your needs may be basic enough for...

I see no point in copyriting my songs. Agree or disagree?

lol Yep, if you feel that sure, definitely don't bother. In other words, you don't really own the rights "no matter what" because as you said, you must be able to prove it, and as someone else pointed out, proof other than a copyright/etc is dicey at best, at least in the U.S. lol - me either...
