Then stop saying mixer! :cursing:
;)
Because that is HORRIBLE advice in the U.S. Many stores use staff with knowledge which is, as the saying goes, a mile long and an inch deep. Aren't quite the experts you'd hope for. Not long ago I went into a Guitar Center and asked about an A.I. and...
True enough. In fact that's cheaper than even a small one of those damned mic shields. :) How do you know to get 1" vs 2" vs 3" etc? Just a sort of unwritten standard?
? Mixers have no more inherent "expansion potential" than an AI. Don't be dazzled because it has lots of fancy fun-looking knobs.
We prefer AI generally because you get more bang for your buck (at least that's the theory). You get what you need vs the fancy knobs, which, if you're going to...
Great recap.
I think the first thing to realize is that whether it's about mics or DAWs or whatever, you ask 10 people and you'll get 10 diff answers. It's all VERY subjective. I didn't like Reaper but it seems to be popular and it's inexpensive and best of all you can download a trial...
Interesting.. Also I find it odd that they are simply flat panels vs having some kind of egg shell foam or similarly irregular shapes on the outside. ? I don't see what that buys me vs just having a big ol wooden panel with a heavy blanket tossed over it. PS: once I looked up "duvet" I...
? I was speaking in general; those are reasons why, esp if you can't hear the diff (and despite the insistence of many otherwise, I think in most cases by far we can't). Personally I'd rather not have to buy additional space if I don't need to, no matter how "cheap" it is. I aint that rich...
Could be various reasons, like email services have size limits on attachments if he wanted to email it to someone, or just not take up as much space when the diff is so massive, regardless how cheap storage is, or how others may balk at being sent a 50MB song file when most of theirs are 10MB...
Just a bedroom.
Oddly, I don't see them for sale anywhere and looking up "gobo" on audio sites gives lighting, not insulated panels. Are they know by another name?
gto's comments have me thinking...I wonder if I took one of those folding panel things people use to get dressed behind and tacked on some foam/sound-proofing stuff and put it behind me, how well that would work. Anyone try this?
Excellent points. d'oh. Why didn't I think of that. :) It should still help though as sound bounces all around in a room, so it would still block off stuff coming in from the sides and back, even though I see why the area where the singer is would be the main problem (coming from that...
That might solve your studio/garage dual-purpose issue, but if you think you might ever want to sell it, that could really put a big dent in potential buyers. Just something to think about (maybe).
Just curious: why? Even a "heavy duty" door is far easier to break into than if there was none...
Moot point IMO. A digital one is far cheaper, far (FAR) easier to deal with size/weight-wise, and far easier to sell. Try that first and if the interest/playing level grows significantly, then maybe consider a real one IMO.
Caveat: I have not used any of these mics.
AKG 220 (a mere $150ish) seems to keep popping up in recommendations of reviews I see for less pricey mics; I'm considering it myself. Supposedly follows the same design as the U87 (not saying that means it's as good btw, but FYI).
The AT 4040...
