Passive pickups vs active pickups... and mix!

You're right, some instruments have this kind of magic. You know, there's something else concerning my test, the Jackson guitar is cheaper than the BC Rich (USD 450 vs. USD 800). I changed the pickups a long time ago but I always wanted an active guitar... now that I have it it seems the old...

Passive pickups vs active pickups... and mix!

Hey there, I just bought another guitar and I wanted to test it against the old one. The results really surprised me. OK, here's the specs of my gear: Jackson RR3 Strings: D'addario 0.10 (brand new set) Pickups: Neck: Seymour Duncan JB / Bridge: Seymour Duncan Distortion BC Rich Warbeast NJ...

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

Manual says 25W and I know it can be connected to an external cab.

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

Tested it again today, just to answer that question. Guitar > MT II > Amp The clean signal is a tad louder than the distorted one. I assume this is 'cause of the gain compression. In the other hand, the tube gain from the amp has a more warm and full tone.

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

I've just bought the BC Rich, $1K. Once I recover from that spending the next step is to get a great amp that I can use if for practice and for the gigs. As I already told you, I really don't use stomp boxes in a live situation, this issue happened in the last concert, the distortion coming from...

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

And you're 18. That explains it all. Just had a practice tube amp in my room (Peavey Bravo 112), my only problem is during the gigs... I have encountered too many shitty amps in my way.

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

I learned the lesson, no more scooped mids for live sessions. BTW, by no means I'm gonna get a new head amp, I'm on a budget right now.

I've used the 5150, it kicks arse. What about this one? Peavey 6505

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

Sorry for not informing what kind of gear I'm using. Here's it: - BC Rich Warbeast NJ Deluxe with 81/85 active pickups. - Jackson RR3 with Duncan Distortion/Duncan JB passive pickups. - MXR 10 band EQ. That's what I'm gonna do, definitively. By the way, the live best sound I've had occurred...

I'm gonna put in in practice next time we play in a gig.

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

All I can say to defend myself is "I like the scooped mid metal sound" but, at the same time, I'm starting to think that the only way to go, the right way is to get a killer head amp, take it to the gigs and blow the crowd with massive gain and thick sound. I'll start saving.

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

Here's my EQ setting: Bass 11 o'clock Mid: 8-9 o'clock Treble: 1 o'clock Sounds is fine to me, I'm more concerned in why the MT-II can't kick the amp.

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

I try to kill those undesirable mids in the amp EQ... and if that doesn't work I have a 10 band EQ to tweak the sound a little bit more. Main problem is volume, the MT-II seems to be really weak in front of a head and stack. That's the reason I'm considering putting an overdrive before that pedal.

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

Considering I play death metal, I try not to push the level and gain knobs more than 12 o clock'. I prefer to raise the clean levels on the amp so, I assume this is not the problem. Cable is Fender, no problem with that. Then the only option is that the pedal is broken but... it works. Is it...

    Weak Boss Metal Zone MT-II

Hello everyone, I'd like you to present an issue that's bothering me a lot: my Boss Metal Zone MT-II stomp box don't have enough juice to kick the amp when I'm in a gig. If I connect my guitar directly into the amp and use the amp's gain, sounds OK, volume is great but most times the...

    Tube amp brands

Those poeple are idiots! :D Hey man, what should I do with my amp, c'mon... you're the tone freak, not me!

    Tube amp brands

Well, I purchased a second-hand Peavey Bravo 112, small combo amp with three 12AX7s and two EL84s. I'm willing to change the preamp tubes. The guys from Peavey recommend me the Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH. Do you think is a good option or should I try the Tungsol 12AX7? Just in case, I play death...

    Please review this rock song...

Hey man, with all respect I would like to ask you: why are you posting that? By no means is a bad song but, as you already have told us, it's not a final tune. There's no way to know what are the chances to have a good mix if you're using reference tracks. Remember all goes in a context, all is...

New song - Pro wrestler's theme song

Drums, drums, drums. Kick sound like a card-box being slapped with a stick. The snare hit must hit your face like fucking fist... it's not a paced song, it's metal! Less verb, more compression and maybe some drum replacement. Guitar playing needs to tighten up a bit.

    Rock N Roll Virus

You speak about power but your drums are weak, and that's the thing that must drive the energy to your song. Snare should have more presence in the mix. The kick is barely audible, maybe you can mix your actual kick with some sample, just to make it punchier. Playing is great, the tune has the...
