yeah, it all depends on what kind of mixer or sound card you're coming from. Like change said XLR is better because it's balanced...I use a 1/4" TRS(tip-ring-sleeve) from the mixer to my monitors....that's balanced too(balanced cuts out wire noise), but it all depends on what you type of thing...

i always went with gating and compressing and then trying to eq the actual sample up i.e. try to find a good frequency that it fits into the rest of the mix. BTW, this is all with limited success, but success nonetheless.

not that it's special, but it is public domain, it came out in like 1922 or something. I understand public domain means that anyone can show it or distribute it, but I didn't know about "borrowing" the audio off of it.
