What kind of DAT machine are you using? I remember seeing a lot of people using different converters on DAT machines, the AD-500 being popular. Someday we will get that ADAT (with the black and silver models) and SV-3700 plug-ins to go with the Studer and Ampex plugs :P

I remember mixing my four-track machine with a hi-fi stereo Panasonic VHS machine in the early 1990s. There were some magazine articles about doing this at the time. These days, something like a DV-3700 is probably $50. I would instead do that than VCR but YMMV.

Today, I picked up this brand new Lexicon LXP-1. It's never been taken out of the box. The power supply is almost fused to the styrofoam. I didn't need it because I have a LARC but for $40 I had to buy it!

Sometimes. Greg Mackie designed them with the pots filled with goo to make them turn more smoothly. In my experience, they would loosen up if you turned them a bit but many of the ones I tried were still smooth.

I think everyone's first was a Tapco! The early Mackie gear in the 1990s was pretty epic at the time. Just think of how many records were made with an eight-bus bus and ADAT/DA-88!
