no there is not, unless its the usb version, which no one around here will recommend. go check out something like a m audio fasttrack or similiar one input interface with phantom power. will run you anywhere from 50-150 depending on where you buy, what you buy, and if its new or used.
Basically as stated above you need an interface with phantom power if you plan to run a condenser mic.
the big question to be asked are your needs. interfaces can have as little as one input or as many as 32+ (in some large mixers).
if you just are doing acoustic and vocals then a small...
in my opinion the sm57 is a workhorse for guitar cabs.
starting out i really like the gls audio es-57 (yes its sm57 clone) and it sells for 30$, i use one pretty often on any amp i record. at 30$ that leaves you the other 70$ to buy a different mic for vocals. perhaps something like the...
my usual:
Drums mic'd and bass direct (click if needed)
Once drums are set i record rhythm guitar (double tracked usually)
Rerecord bass if original track is not usable
do a prelim mix
Record lead guitars or keys (pending if keys are lead)
Record the other
Mix
Record Vocals
if i have enough...
agreed with recording drums seperately.
sm57s are a great mic for recording guitar amps and most other purposes (snares sound great)
vocal wise, you can either go ribbon or large diaphragm condenser, look around.
DAW wise, reaper is free to try and cheap to buy, no bells and whistles and...
I've been looking to add some ribbon flavor to my recordings, mainly to sweeten up recording guitars (currently run a gls es-57) and maybe use on vocals (using mxl v88), but mainly on guitars.
I have 4 mics currently that i am looking at. But will take advice on good ribbons for guitar...
well it depends if you are talkinf about tracking, or mixing. I assume, based upon your post, you are talking about playback/mixing, in which case it is up to you. In my opinion the louder it is the more you hear the little details. It also depends on if your using monitors, and such. Don't blow...
Buy PreSonus FP10 10x10 Firewire Interface (Firepod) | Audio Interfaces | Musician's Friend
I can tell you that is what he owns jim. I also own one. Not sure the drivers issues sadly, i own a mac and it works fine. Make sure you have sp3 installed.
thanks a lot. i think im going to try using a 57 and my condenser, using it 6-10 inches away. and see which sounds best. ill definitely have to check out which speaker is the winner.
No it is not natural for studio monitors to hiss or hum with no sound coming through them, or even with sound for that matter (unless its coming from the tracks).
As far as new monitors go, heard but good things about KRK's. I think you'd want to save up for the 6's at least but thats my...
Picking up a new amp friday (jet city Jca20H)
Going to be running it out of an 80s peavey 4x12.
though im going to experiment with mics and such just looking for some general advice.
so far i've read an sm57 off axis pointing toward the center is a good place to start.
I will be using my...
thanks for the advic, the rnc also looks cool. i currently run a behringer compressor/expander. which soundsn ot bad ill say. this is really making me want a dmp3
that makes sense. the 210 can handle slightly higher spl's but not enough of a difference to really be noticeable between the two it looks like. i guess its an either or thing. but the 205 is solid for 100.
