    Cats out of the bag...

Just my opinion, but I think if you're going to post something in this forum, it behooves you to give the particulars of design and construction (schematics, methods, pictures of the innards, etc.) Otherwise, post it in the appropriate equipment forum. Frankly, I don't give a shit that you...

Guitar Tuning and Temperament Primer (revised)

I was just being a wise-ass - see the smiley? I too have heard wonderful guitar performances - I imagine part of it lies in knowing which strings to use for which notes in which keys, to minimize the tuning discrepancies.

Guitar Tuning and Temperament Primer (revised)

I was using the term as a synonym, perhaps incorrectly, for double bass, upright bass, standup bass, bass fiddle, contrabass or what have you. Sorry for the confusion. Of course, none have frets.

Guitar Tuning and Temperament Primer (revised)

Exactly. This is why I stopped playing guitar, and now go with bass viol, fretless electric bass, guitarron, dobro, pedal and lap steel. If it sounds shitty (and it usually does) at least I know it's my own fault, and not due to an inherent fault of the instrument. And at least it has the...

Front view. Sounds fine. Now I just need to learn to play it.

And from the other. I could refinish this to make it less apparent, but it's not worth the effort. The functionality is fine.

    Guitarrón - split heel

The brace is not tight enough either, but it will suffice.

    Guitarrón - split heel

After gluing, here's the inside at the heel. Didn't pull the neck piece all the way down - I should have put another screw in here through the top.

    Guitarrón - split heel

The top clamped onto the side where it split off, again with Elmer's. The loose brace was also clamped and glued. More pics when it's dry and restrung. Also, this thread might be better off in DIY/mods, instead of electric guitars and basses. :)

    Guitarrón - split heel

So here's the 2 1/2" deck screw through the neck and into the heel, after liberally applying Elmer's white glue to the crack. The screw pulled it together pretty well.

    Guitarrón - split heel

The loose brace. Nothing holding the top and sides together except, apparently, glue.

    Guitarrón - split heel

Here's the heel from the inside, showing that the heel and neck extension are two different pieces of wood, and don't really look like they were ever glued together. You can see the crack in the side extending out to the left of the "joint."

    Guitarrón - split heel

This is really a cheap Chinese POS, so I don't mind just going for the simple fix. This shows how they screwed the bridge on from below. So one more screw in this instrument won't hurt.

    Guys, I need serious help.

Sounds like Litz cable, to reduce high frequency losses. I doubt it has any perceptible benefit at audio frequencies. Audiophool stuff, IMHO. Litz wire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Guys, I need serious help.

14AWG solid wire is about 1/16" diameter. Stranded should easily be less than 1/12" (at maximum packing diameter ~1/14"), so if yours is as fat as 1/4"TS, it ain't #14AWG.
