good value
our church uses 990s. they sound great.
know a pro singer using one at home.
for $50-70 with case and suspension cage this is a good value.
noise? maybe you should look at your pre and not blame the mike. or fix the environment.
you are way too close
if you are concerned about that then you are way too close for a good recording andor have the wrong location for your mike
you should be off to the side near the middle, back at least a foot ( i would go 2-3 feet depending on the instrument). and that might still be...
stand alones have other problems and shortcomings.
great for portability, pita often for at home use and much more limited than a full pc DAW set up with interface.
software makes the hardware happen.
and it is a lot more affordable and flexible these days.
that is why there are so many choices.
this is all very subjective.
the 990 is more than worth the money.
i got two of them on sale for the cost of one 57
and i got a case and antivibration noise suspension cage too.
our church uses 990s and they sound great.
we have a pro singer that uses...
fix the room
there are lots of books that tell how to build/fix a studio/room
you should read several of them for ideas
then figure out what is wrong with your room
and then decide what you can afford to improve
there are easy fixes and expensive ones depending what you really need. and...
technique
that is not a bad mike
so --- do you sing in a tin room or dumpster?
the result you hear is more the environment and you not the mike being tinny.
tht said, perhaps they didnt screw down the capsule inside and its vibrating in its mount.
i would suggest you take it apart and...
maybe
looked at it didnt get it - FUD from badmouthing on the net
thought it was only 2 tracks but my memory is not that good
i would be careful about being able to get good drivers
word on the net was they stopped updating them so if you use vista or 7 you may have big problems
not sure...
songwriters market will tell you how to approach buyers
keep in mind they get a *lot* of unsolicited material
so be sure yours is top quality and spot on to their requirements
taxi costs some money but will take a lot more time and skill if you expect to make money through them
only if you want to make money
touring is necesssary to make a lot of money
when you get to that level of skill and fanbase
first you will have to get a fan base by playing local gigs
then moving along to regional gigs while selling merch and getting a mailing list etc
continue promotion...
yes yes
the cost is modest to high depending on whether you are working minimum wage or not at all
yes there are alternatives
there is no magic bullet
you have to be good
work hard
and have some luck to succeed
mixer very optional
you dont need a mixer
later on you might want one anyway so keep it
put the mikes into the audio interface
and connect it to your pc
and start singing
if you have condensor mikes make sure the interface provides the phantom power
try this
dunno
rap and screamo really don't need high end mikes imho
you can buy an sm58 for $100 or so
you can buy a chinese knockoff of the 58 for $30 or so
what are you using now?
what shortcomings do you think that that mike has ?
what is your budget?
how bad will you hurt if you buy...
possibly or worse
possibly
worse - some devices dont like to run on extensions
dont know why just that sometimes that happens
maybe a powered expansion would be better
when there is more cable there is more room for noise to leak in and is worse with more connectors
its cheap
you need...
next step
your gear is good enough for you for now
next step is to improve your performance
and also to improve your miking mixing mastering techniques
i would say read some of the many books on home recording ,
recording vocals , mixing, mastering, mike technique, how to improve your...
perhaps
i stayed with xp pro to avoid vista and 7 problems.
win 7 is known to be hard to get working with audio.
either you have some control setting wrong in the signal path that does not work or else some cable is plugged wrong.
or you may be using a windows component that is messing with...
maybe
drivers.... whole nuther issue
if you have the latest drivers from presonus for your model mac and opsys then it should be fine
i would google for the key words and also "problem" and similar
to see if anyone can share real experience with your devices
