    Amp Stands?

The more expensive stands are probably made of a little heavier guage metal. Depending on the weight of your amp you might be able to get by with the cheaper model.

    Bass Picking up Buzz

If the bass has a good set up the buzzing is likely your playing technique. Bass takes more effort and strength to play than guitar. I'm sure you have noticed this already. Work on more precise fretting and try a lighter touch picking the notes. The harder you pluck the strings the more...

    noise! shhhh!

Get the amp serviced. Common cause for hum/buzz is a bad or weak filter, It's an easy fix but will likely cost you $100 (mostly labor, the parts are fairly cheap) or more for the servicing.

    Rings and Things

I've been noticing lately (at least in photos and videos) that quite a number of guitarists are wearing loads of jewelry and other hand accessories, huge rings, assorted bracelets and chains, gloves and who knows what else. I don't know about anyone else but it took me ages to get used to...

    old c1000s akg ?

I just added a MXL 990 S (2 LCDs in a XY pattern in one capsule, cable with 2 XLR plugs) to my collection of mics. I've been quite impressed with it for a vocal mic both for solo and group/harmony parts. It also works great for overheads rather than two seperate mics in a XY pattern. These...

    Guitar amp Vs PA?

I normaly run my acoustic through just the PA (with multi efx pedal) for electric I use an amp. I don't see why a guitarist couldn't go straight through the PA, if he has the right processor to get the sound he wants.

    Do looks matter?

I've never bought a guitar purely because of it's looks, I have avoided a few because of their looks. I like my gear (all of it) to look good, maybe not beautifull but at least pleasing to my own eyes. I have to admitt I have seen a few guitars that were just so ugly I couldn't bring myself to...

    Unprocessed Vocal Tracks

On a raw vocal track I listen for a few basic things, 1 clarity, 2 pitch (on key,) 3 pops and breath noise, 4 timing. If the raw track is clear, on key, on time and with little or no noise then it will be easy to work with. If the track is off on any of the 4 things I mentioned then it's time...

    The Pro-Tools Debate

I've been using PT for just over a year and am just now really getting used to it. I tried several other recording programs and found they all do basicly the same thing. The main advantage I found is that so many other people use PT so it is easier to work between studios for remixing or...

    Tuning pegs

I had the chance to read the warantee on the new Schaller locking nut machines yesterday, same as on their regular machines. Guaranties the materals and workmanship, doesn't say one word about staying in tune any better. The package says so but not the warantee.

    Unprocessed Vocal Tracks

Youre going to have a hard time finding recordings with unprocessed vocals unless you can find some old (i mean really old) recordings. Way back, say circa 1950 maybe, when many recordings were basicly one room, whole band at once, mono, lo-fi, and largely "undoctored." I don't think many...

    My first recording sucked

If it's any consolation, my first couple of hundred recordings sucked, in fact many of them still do, but I'm still trying. Don't give up, just learn from your mistakes, take my word for it, there are plenty to be made.

    Tuning pegs

I have to agree 100%, the machine part of a tuner will not slip, not even on the super cheapo open back ones. If the hole in the post is badly worn or the bevel is cut too wide a string might slip but the machine will stay exactly where you put it. Gear ratios can vary, the precision of the...

    Quick 4 track/cassette question

I have a MT120 (similar but not exactly the same) and Iv'e tried all types and most brands of tape on it. For best results use chrome II tape, If you can't find chrome tapes High Bias tapes will work if you don't plan to do much track bouncing or reuseing the tapes. Regular cassettes are ok...

    Tuning pegs

If it makes it any easier, Schaller tuners will usually fit right onto Ibanez headstocks. I'm not 100% sure but I think Ibanez stock tuners are made to Schaller specs. I might be wrong about that but I've installed Schallers on a couple of Ibanez guitars and they fit like they were made to fit...

    Jimmy Page's low-slung guitar position.

For me, it's more about comfort than looking cool, I'm too old to worry much about looking cool. Hung too low just feels sloppy to me, too high and I feel cramped and restricted. Somewhere in the middle (bridge about over my hip bone, neck tilted up at about 30 degrees) feels right to me but...

    wireless headphones

All wireless gear (mics, headphones, whatever) is subject to a lot of outside interfearance. I've never tried wireless headphones but I know without a doubt wireless mics are virtualy useless in a studio. In any studio you want the best/clearest sound you can get, it doesn't make sense to risk...

    blues recording secrets ???

If you think those mics are good enough, then use them. You will be greatly limited with those mics though. Any mic has a use, different mics will allow you to capture some entirely different sonic properties. Better mics should be your first step toward improving your recordings. I don't...

    Art work on panels

I had a similar idea. I discovered that an air brush and colored ink works great, especialy on lighter colored fabrics. It's a good idea to wash the fabric first so you will get a more consistant coverage. Loose weave cotton, lenin or muslin works well for this, avoid materals like polyesters...

    Hanging overheads?

I was beginning to think I was the only one who did that. ;)
