How about this comparison:
1st track: Queen - We are the Champions (One of the most played songs of all time, From News of the World released in 1977).
2nd track: Michael Jackson - Beat it (From the best selling album of all time, Thriller released in 1982).
3rd track: Gwen Stefani - The sweet...
I am a PC user (WIN XP) and haven't used the audiophile too much lately, but I haven't had any issues with the interface at all. It's a great interface for the price! I don't think that it would be easy to get a new one since it has been discontinued, but you can pick one up from ebay for...
drossfile- nice sounding track... The drum tracks sound raw but really nice... The guitars sound a little weak between the 1:00 and the 1:30 mark... maybe some punching in new more solid takes might do... otherwise, great track! OH's sound fine and even the mix sounds good!
I have an M-Audio firewire audiophile and I guess it's just what you need. FW connection, 2 inputs without preamps, 4 outs, midi in/out, S-PDIF and good converters.
I respect the band and love some of their songs and the out of tune vocals are kind of a guilty pleasure... kind of like some of slash's bends...
But yes, Californication's dynamics are pretty much inexistent. A fun thing to do is to import albums into your DAW and see the waveforms. Some...
It depends... depends on the materials the room is made of, depends on what the result you are looking for (anechoic, neutral, just kill some reflection).
True, omni microphones don't work well for x-y or ortf mic techniques, however, I own a pair and have gotten great results with them placed a la Massenberg or Glyn Johns; again, I have to thank Harvey Gerst for recomending them.
by the way, what do you think about a bass trap cloud right on top of where my sweet spot would be? And one more thing... my windows are already built and they are slanted where the top of the window is closer to me than the bottom of it (does that make sense?) and there is a good 5 or 6 cm...
Thank you guys for your response and sorry it took me a while to get back to you...
rayc, you're totally right, the glass behind the R monitor is not a good idea. I would like to be able to look into the vocal booth and the main room, hence where I placed my desk. The booth used to be a shower...
the best damn overhead mics THAT I HAVE USED are AKG 414's (and they sound great with almost any source I have put in front of them!).
A great engineer I know loves his Sennheiser MKH 406 glyn johns technique.
I've recently tried the AKG perception 100's as well and was very pleased with the...
If what you are looking for is the best INEXPENSIVE mics out there for overhead purposes I would have to say: go for the ECM 8000's. Harvey Gerst recommended them a few years ago and if the room you're tracking drums is any good, these cheap-o omni's will do the job and you'll be down less than...
