Shure SM58 or Beta 58 for recording of vocals

Not too many people I know would look for a dynamic for vocals in the studio. Having said that, the world's all time best selling album had its vocals tracked with a dynamic microphone. The album: Michael Jackson - Thriller The mic: Shure SM 7 You can get a used SM 7 for around €400 if you...

    Best way to learn recording

Surprised nobody has mentioned this but it is extremely helpful in learning recording techniques to see others do it. Find all the studios there are nearby and offer your services serving coffee. Many great engineers have started out this way. You start by serving coffee, cleaning the place...

    Myspace murdered my mix...

You could upload a song at 192, 256 or 320 BUT there's a size limit per track (I believe it to be around 4MB which translates roughly to a 4 minute track at 128) so if you have a track that's under 2 minutes, you probably could upload it at 256 and that would help your quality. All in all it's...

    Direct Recording

I guess that the hassle lies in two factors; the fact that setting up the mic in front of the cabinet can take a while because you want to find that sweet spot; the fact that (in my experience recording distorted guitars) recording has to be done at a fairly loud volume and that can be a hassle...

    iPOD NANO 60 gig video............$120

They'll get what's coming to them... But I HATE SPAM!!! Only thing worse than spam is spam sent by someone you know!!! No guys, send this message to 7 people you know and something cool will happen to your DAW in 7 hours; if you break the chain Sonar will crash every 7 minutes... LOL Carlos

    Editing Audio

Editing audio Editing audio is not difficult; however you do need to know what, how and why you're editing. It's mostly time consuming. Here are a few things that you should keep in mind: Zoom in as far as you can. Do things to the best of your ability; a mediocre job is never going to get...

    How would you record this?

The minimalistic approach is always a good place to start. Try one mic first and go from there. Be careful of phase problems when adding other microphones. I'd start with the 57 a couple of inches from the cone of the speaker you like most. It's just a standard for good guitar sound. Good...

    Which Program?

Well IMHO for recording a 5 piece band the way to go is PRO. Get your hands on Sonar 4 (or 5) and you will NOT regret it. Good luck, Carlos

Anybody using Sonar 5 with no problems?

I'm still holding back, I'm waiting for more reviews on it. Can anybody tell me, in a nutshell, what are, in your opinion, the most significant improvements from 4?! Thanx

Drivers, crackling problem... what am I missing?!

Thank you Q, I've been reluctant to open the box and fool around with the card itself because I remember that a few years back, I did this and not only did Win2k (mind you, a different OS than the one I'm using now) not recognize the card (had to reinstall drivers and all) but I also had some...

Drivers, crackling problem... what am I missing?!

another issue disregarding the cracks and pops I get, I just noticed another BIG problem while recording with the delta 1010lt!!! Here's what I did, I armed a track in a brand new project, I configured the input to be channel 6 from my 1010 which is connected to the output of my tube preamp; I...

Drivers, crackling problem... what am I missing?!

Thanks for all the replies. I've been tweaking and testing and now the cracks and pops are much less than before, however, the system is far from what it was when I was using win2k with sonar 3.0. There are some timing issues as I feel that the metronome slows down and I get some delay on the...

Drivers, crackling problem... what am I missing?!

No, unfortunately the MAUDIO Delta 1010LT is sharing IRQ 17 with: CNet PRO200WL PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (LAN Card) Intel (R) ICH5/ICH5-M SMBus Controller 24D3 (Intel Smbus 2.0 Driver) About uninstalling the Creative, it doesnt affect the snaps crackles and pops. I have no idea how to modify...

Drivers, crackling problem... what am I missing?!

Thanks for your input Q. I tried setting the Delta's DMA Buffer size to 512, the i/o Buffer size to 512 inside Sonar, the mixing latency to 60Msecs and I still get clicks pops and crackles (It's almost a breakfast cereal what's coming from my monitors when I play back a couple of simple guitar...

Drivers, crackling problem... what am I missing?!

First off I want to say hello to all my fellow Sonar afficionados!!! I had been absent from recording for a while, trying to work (day job) and make some money so I would update a few things in my studio. I had been reluctant to change my OS and Sonar 3 but a few circumstances forced me to...

    Antares - Microphone Modeler

I've tried it and haven't really played with it much but IMO it didn't really do much to the track unless, like others have pointed out, you do drastic adjustments for EQ or gain purposes. I would't buy the plugin however, I would rather choose having different colored mics.

Favorite mic for acoustic, especially violin?

I've used the ECM 8000 for violin and it sounded very rich and accurate.

    That sound effect?

I'm not 100% sure what track you're talking about but I believe that a vocoder tweaked right can do the trick.
