Wait a minute! A catch 22 with hardware leveling amp?

Hmm, interesting. I've calibrated my meters on the Central Station for the playback, but I'm not sure how to calibrate my input converters. Could you be more specific or perhaps point me to an article for reading?

Wait a minute! A catch 22 with hardware leveling amp?

Yes, 16 tracks out of the DAW. I use the TLAudio Ebony A4 summer. I aslo have a smaller summer with 12 additional channels in case I need more, but it is mono. Yes, it has inserts on the 2-bus prior to the output (headed back to the DAW,) but I have not yet used them for anything. I was...

Wait a minute! A catch 22 with hardware leveling amp?

Since I've started using a hardware summing amp with my DAW, I've noticed a marked improvement in my final mixes. I have fairly decent A/D-D/A converters, (RME,) so it's been working well for me. In fact, I've also started using more hardware gear such as effects and compressors. I'm having a...

    Autotune - "phasing"

Well, it's obvious. If you record two parallel tracks and then change one of them, they will no longer match. My suggestion is, record only one vocal track. You can still use your hardware compressor after you autotune.

Live Recording - I fixed up a damaged vocal track

I recorded this live in multitrack then took it home to mix later. When I listened to each track playback, I discovered that the lead vocal track had this terrible distorted rattle or sizzle noise in the high frequencies. Since my recording levels were all correct, I couldn't figure out where it...

Practicing my editing skills. (Beatles cover made in house)

I am not sure I understand what you mean. They are all slow zooms. Can you be more specific as to which one(s) you didn't like?

Advice from you live sound folks- Sub quality?

Forget the BK Electronics subs as mentioned earlier. They are designed for smaller spaces and lower volumes, not for a live band. You need road-ready subs designed to be moved around. Based on what you described, (Not looking to get into anything real high volume/heavy rock, just good...

Heads Up: Warm Audio WA12 preamp

Bryan Adams made some sound clips for his review... Warm Audio WA12 Review Part 2: The Audio Files | Everything Recording That tone switch sure makes a big difference. He says it drops the impedance from 600 ohms down to 150 ohms. I wonder if the mic was loaded similarly on the other...

Ringo became a Beatle 50 years ago TODAY!

I feel that creativity in music is entirely subjective, just like our taste for foods. What tastes luscious to one person may taste very bad to the next person. I only stated my opinion about Ringo's playing, (my taste, so-to-speak.) I could never expect everyone else to feel the same way. If...

    .

I have used the MixWiz for live sound and it performs very well. However, I have not used it for studio mixing. In fact, I have used a few Allen & Heath mixers over the years and have had no complaints about any of them. A & H has a good reputation for decent quality and are used for large...

    MOV Converter

Another thumbs up for Super. It seems to have the best performance and produces reliable, error free files. Here is a shortcut to the download... http://www.erightsoft.org/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe They apparently get financial support by including AOL browser toolbar as a secondary install...

Ringo became a Beatle 50 years ago TODAY!

I've always felt that Ringo was a very basic drummer. I mean, I could play along to most Beatles songs when I was a teenager / rookie.

Recording live with a click and overduubing drums later?

I'm not sure I understand how you will remove the scratch track from a two-track recording. Simply layering new drums over top may cause phase problems.

    Sm57 can't go wrong?

I used to use the 57 for guitar amps and snare drums until I discovered the evolution 900 series by Sennheiser. To me, the e906 (not to be confused with the e609) sounds far better when A/B'ing them side by side. ...But that's just me.

Are my recordings good enough for mixing?

I am no professional, but I have been getting good results over the last 6 or 8 years. Your tracks seem to have that amateur sound to them, the same as mine did at first. This is generally caused by the room itself (and compounded by poor technique.) As it has been suggested a million times on...

Please give me insight on this problem with recording live shows and clipping!

A square wave indeed causes more heat buildup in a speaker than a correct wave. (But that discussion is for another thread. Let's not hijack this one.)

Please give me insight on this problem with recording live shows and clipping!

Kerrie, Perhaps some schooling is in order here... As you have found, metering is different from analog to digital. When analog gear is designed, they set the "zero" mark on the meter at the loudest point the gear can be operated without adding measurable distortion to the signal. As the...

    Cheap 1080HD Digital Recording Camera?

In the US, Best Buy is discontinuing one certain JVC model because the LCD is not touch pad capable. (The user must use tiny buttons to go through the menu.) The model is GZ-E10 and it records in FullHD (1920 x 1080.) It is now on sale for about $200 or so bundled with a bunch of accessories...
