The board has plenty of space top of the mornin and thanks for the replies, The pcb is spatious and the ICs are all in sockets, so changing them is a piece of cake. I count six of them in the signal path, not counting the one in the de-esser(not too pleased with it either really) As for...

How did they do it? Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the firecat

Thanks for the link! I take the liberty of quoting jmikeperkins over at gearslutz: I must say it again; the sound on these records is very interesting, it is a beautiful quality of mids and harmonies, that the bass+treble hysteria elegantly wiped out... Do you folks think they used large...

How did they do it? Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the firecat

The room, the proximity, the timber, the crunch, the balance is an historic soundmans deed... and mr stevens' art goes without saying... and I know theres a lot to be done with a good eq-strip..... BUT how did they record those guitars? what microphones sound like this...? and the...

yeah even thinking about not using the gefells....what ingrate... I think you have a point... I best go with them and the DMP3 A question bout the Para DI... does it make an electric guitar sound acoustic, or is it meant for amping acoustic instruments? cause it would truly be a good option...

Type II audio tape in 2006/2007 - from smoke to fire -

tapes are here... Well Tim, I will certainly look into the calibration procedure... probably only to realise it is a bit over my head... What I meant about the DBX relates exactly to the reduction of the background noise. And to me the sound has a special feature when it is this free of...

Type II audio tape in 2006/2007 - from smoke to fire -

This is very true Tim. If/when I start recording live, or even recording stuff that needs more dynamic range I will need to turn it on... I am actually very pleased with the dbx in the portastudio - it puts a special character on the recordings... I read something in the manual about...

Type II audio tape in 2006/2007 - from smoke to fire -

thanks cjacek, that would mean dbx in my case... and maybe the compressor goes under NR also... My Portastudio works just fine... it is beautiful :D I even prefer to run it without the dbx for some uses... there is so little noise anyway. as long as the signal in is well adjusted... :cool...

Type II audio tape in 2006/2007 - from smoke to fire -

Thanks guys for your replies. As a Reel Person introduces them, the qualities of either more bassy or a clearer high end are exactly the kind of stuff I want to hear... :) and man, if there were any tapes worth buying in oslo, norway, i''d buy them all... it looks though like I will have to...

Type II audio tape in 2006/2007 - from smoke to fire -

Dear everyone, I have just been reading the lot of threads concerning Type II / CrO2 / High Bias tapes. This, combined with the fact that Europe is not an easy place in which to be reborn into the organic light of analogy, from the nightmares of 0 and 1... ...some shallow depths for your...

    Source voltage for demagnetizing

Glad to hear... thanks man for your reply, This sounds like my conclusion as well... so the transformer does not do the 50 to 60Hz conversion... mmm I wonder how this affects the field... I guess the sign of the field simply changes 50 instead of 60 times per second... and this, one can...

    Source voltage for demagnetizing

Dear all, In the cold north(read Norway) we use 220V instead of 110V. As a nostalgic I proudly own a Tascam 246 Portasudio beauty, that I want to treat to regular head demagnetizing. I am wondering if it, in the name of homogenizing the magnetic ion distribution in the head(isnt this what one...
