    Replacement Necks

I bought a Telecaster replacement neck from Performance Guitar in Hollywood (323.883.0781) and it's way better than a Fender neck. The guy who owns the place will do virtually any combination/permutation of woods, fingerboards, headstock shapes and finishes and the prices are pretty reasonable.

    preamp>comp vs comp>preamp

I was recording some tracks for a friend and she asked me the following question: What is the difference between running (from a mic) preamp then compressor vs. compressor then preamp? I didn't know you could do it both ways. Is this true?

    HELP! purchasing HD recording system

Thanks for that...I have a G4 and I just got the MOTU 2408 so I'm gonna mess with the (included) Audio Desk software so I can get a beter idea of what I actually NEED. (Other than scads of preamps!!) I have to say that I have found more useful info on this BBS than all my other sources...

    The power problem!!!

You can get quiet little fans at places like Heathkit that are made for the purpose of keeping electronics cool. Also I'm sure computer suppliers like Fry's have little computer fans which are prob. not as heavy duty or as quiet.

    HHB Radius stuff...izzit bunk???

I'm recording with a G4/MOTU 2408/Audio Desk rig. Right now I'm using a 1604 VLZ pro when I need multiple preamps (for drums mostly). A guy I know recommended an HHB Radius 10 "tube based(?)" four channel preamp. I didn't get a chance to listen to it, but at around $600 it seems like a good...

    EBow - Anyone use it . . . tried it ?

Actually, I don't like Big Country very much at all. I do like their guitar sound for some things. Their drummer, however did learn to play pretty well. His name was Mark Brzeziki and he played on The Cult's "Love" not to mention tons of Brit session work. Pretty legendary guy.

    Hamer Guitars

BTW, are you sure those guitars are neck-thru and not set-neck? I'm guessing they're probably glued unless they're models I'm not familiar with.

    Hamer Guitars

I just played a Schecter Diamond Series (this one happened to be a Tempest) and it was solid!! It was also around $400. The glued-on/neck-thru/bolt on thing is forever gonna be a point of contention, but the reality is that there are legendary guitars of all three types. For example, Alembics...

    Fucking Patch Cables!!!

Kudos RussP!!!! I'm sure most of us are adults here, but who knows? While my ears are certainly anything but virgin, your attitude is refreshing!!!

Top BILLBOARD hits of all time?

There's probably a hundred #1's cuz there's so many qualifiers involved. I mean based on what and according to whom? Sales? Radio? Performance? Publishing? At one time weren't there sheet music charts? And doesn't Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" figure in here somewhere?

Best lyrics you've ever read (written)?

Hey, Shana.. Manic Monday was written by Prince...BTW. How about this lyric? "The hand of God wears a ring about the size of Texas" from some Soundgarden song...

    Fucking Patch Cables!!!

A few years ago i bought a spool of Canare Cable. Whenever I need a cable I go buy whatever Neutrik connector I need. Saves a lot of $$$ and I learned to solder!! If yer not into that, I see lots of diff. high grade patches a Guitar Satan (I mean Center). For mail-order, try sweetwater.com.

    Hollowbody Bass Guitars

I just did a three band tour and the bass player in one of the other bands used a new Epiphone Jack Cassidy (which looks sorta like a 335) and it sounded SWEET and full and round...and barre chords sounded amazing!

    BRUTAL Distortion

Here's the word on removing tubes from yer Recto from the guy I talked to at Mesa Hollywood: They should only be removed in pairs (from dual and triples only). Also, remove the outside pair first and for each pair you remove, remove one rectifier tube (the big 5U4G; doesn't matter which one)...

are all Boogies created equally (distortion-wise)?

Mesa Engineering actually approach different amps with VERY differently. I only know this because I've done a lot of reading at mesabogie.com. I bought a Mark IV, took it to rehearsal and was back at the store an hour later trading it for a Recto, not because it was no good, but because it...

    British "Alternative" Sound

I gotta agree with Krystof01..the AC-15 is one of the baddest amps I've ever recorded with. While we're on the subject, Verve records have a lot of amazing guitar work on them. If you've never heard it, start with Urban Hymns (no, none of it really sounds much like "Bittersweet Symphony").

    How many Les Paul owners?

I always have my 70's standard (with Seth Lovers) around, but don't forget Les Paul Jrs! Nothing screams like that lo-mass wood with a P-90!! I have a '55 that I got in a pawn shop in Texas for $200 (!!!) years ago and now a Jr. reissue (which also sounds amazing!!)

    country guitar twang

i did a lot of country guitar recording years ago. My formula was: Tele (usually), single coil neck pickup, picking near the bridge, lighter strings, NEWER strings, spring reverb, less mid on the amp, and 10" speakers instead of 12". That's if you want the classic vintage country twang (like...

    Mesa Boogie,Mesa Boogie

OK, I just checked mesaboogie.com and it looks like they sell amps there, but I think you have to call for pricing. I KNOW they do phone orders, though. Also, if you can at all afford it, get a set of EL 34's so you can swap between them and the stock 6L6's. There's a bias switch for doing...

    Mesa Boogie,Mesa Boogie

I've been using a Triple Rectifier for about a year now and it's pretty damn good. I will say that I still use my Marshall JMP in the studio quite a bit, though. If you go to mesaboogie.com they have a lot of info. One thing I should add is that I bought the Mesa recto cab (4x12) with...
