I think Churchill once said something like, "This is the kind of foolishness up with which I will not put!" after one of his editors criticized his placement of a preposition at the end of a sentence.

Sorry, DEWD, but I have to agree with Bruce. My experience of MIXING with headphones has always been disappointing, even though I listen to music with cans all the time. I can tell that I've been misled by them as soon as I hear the mixes with speakers. Maybe some people can mix with headphones...
CanopuS, that actually sounds pretty good IMO. I think with a little EQ or experimentation with mic placement you might be able to get some improvement, but it's really not bad as is.
I've never used a TL, but I have an ADK TC that I love. ADK makes good mics and has fantastic customer service...
I think this is an illustration of "bipolar disorder".
Speaking of crazy, my M179 arrived DOA today. I'm not sure what 8th street will do about it.

I've used an ADK TC and an ADK Vienna on 'cello. Very nice results!
I'd suggest a pair of the ADK Vienna or Hamburg models.
In general, choosing LDCs or SDCs might depend on whether you want a flattering, thick rich tone (the ADK's would give you that) or a more accurate sound. Of course...
I haven't used either Mackies or Dynaudio, but I'm a little curious about why you use the Dynaudios if you find that the Mackies translate better to the average sound system. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you?

That's what I assumed at first, too. But from the schematic (downloadable from the Rane web site), it seems that the DMS 22 uses the 2017 instrument amplifier, not the INA163. So they don't appear to be identical.

Oh well. You can console yourself with the fact that you saved a few bucks you can put towards something better.
I got my Spirit mixer for something like $170 on eBay. Not much more than I spent for the Mixim 10, but so much better value.

I have one. It was my first mixer. Used it on an early recording project. It works. The pres are quiet but nothing special, and the mixer doesn't have a lot of headroom. Right now I'm using it as a headphone amp. My Soundcraft Spirit F8 mixer is much, much better. At the current price, however...
I have an A51 type V and I think it might work for you. The AT4040 would probably also be good to try (but I've never used one, so I can't say much). Perhaps someone who's used good dynamic mics like the Sennheiser MD441 could tell you whether they would accentuate the low mids or not.
Good...
I don't think the TC exaggerates low mids; my impression is that it's fairly neutral. But in any case, why are you so reluctant to use a little EQ?
Perhaps others can suggest a mic that would be more suitable for what you want. But, as stated many times in these forums, you need to try out...
Actually, in my experience the TC has much less proximity effect than other mics I've used, and as I recall, the ADK web site quotes a review that says the same thing. I like the TC a lot, if I have a source that needs to be smoothed out a little. I'm not sure it's the absolute best for fast...
