12 inch Pa speakers : Wood or plastic

They make lots of drivers that other speaker companies use. You've probably heard RCF stuff a lot without realizing it.:)

Questions about pre-amps, signal, and audio level

    1. The preamp is a voltage amplifier. It uses the input voltage from the mic or instrument to control an output device capable of creating a larger voltage, like a power tube or transistor. That larger voltage is an exact copy of the input voltage, just with more amplitude. That is the basic way...

What is this and why so much

Try pricing it out in analog gear, and also consider the space and weight of an analog rig and it's actually pretty cheap.:)

    Rackmount fan

    Radio Shack probably has one.

    cable connection question

It also works when you aren't sending a signal.:p The balanced cable carries noise to both the regular and inverting inputs, where it cancels.

Anyone else find this disturbing marketing jargon?

Yes. Your perception is that each second of music is divided up into 44,100 segments and sampled. You are asking if that is correct, because to you that seems to indicate that unless the information was perfectly timed, a sample rate of 44.1k could easily miss high frequency information. Your...

Warning: Lots of pedals! Mysteriously Lost All Signal!

My vote is a loose connection somewhere, especially since the old setup worked. Or maybe the settings on your noise suppressor got nudged.

    Mic Positioning

They work well most of the time, but sometimes flop around a bit depending on how tight the handle is. You can get a bracket for it, but then you are back to modding the amp. I usually put them on the bottom. A gooseneck lets you get different positions easily, it's a great idea!:)

    Mic Positioning

Or a z-bar, kind of an industry standard. http://cgi.ebay.com/Z-BAR-Guitar-Amplifier-Amp-Miking-Mic-Bracket_W0QQitemZ320198079019QQcmdZViewItem?IMSfp=TL071219107a34052

How to set up a large console?

Yep, that's what you do. And that's why people hate to stop in the middle of a project and switch. The ability to save and recall mix scenes is one very convenient feature of working with digital gear. If you've ever heard the term "snapshot" in reference to a digital recall scene saved to...

    Mesa tubes?

Mesa and biasing-- Some of their products are fixed-bias, some are cathode- or self-biasing. They are not all the same.:) Fixed bias amps want the same value tubes put in each time, or the bias changed when using tubes with different plate current. Cathode- or self-biasing amps are pretty...

    Mesa tubes?

Matching isn't the same as grading. Matching is about plate current, grading is about when the tube will start to break up. And any set of tubes will be unmatched in about a month.:p Anyway- Tight-matched power tubes= not a big deal, and a new thing. The standard pretty much forever was 25%...

    No PA system!

Sounds like you killed that gig, nice work. See if they will let you use your own PA stuff. It works, you know it works, and it's what you need to do to bring a quality production. That's what I'd tell them, in the nicest way possible. If they insist on lavs, maybe you could do two mixes, send...

    RNP Burn In Time?

Burn-in time is the time manufacturers recommend you listen to your new stuff to forget what your old stuff sounds like so you can convince yourself your new more expensive stuff sounds better. The more expensive the new gear, the longer burn-in is required. Figure about 10 hours of burn-in...

    Guitar Amp Mic Options

That's not what you said. You said: Remember, with the gain on the preamp set low to accommodate your big loud guitar amp, it's not going to be sensitive enough to pick up much else. Which is totally not right. The reason the bleed isn't as loud is because it isn't as loud. Your gain...

    Guitar Amp Mic Options

Are you saying the mic's pickup pattern and response change with the gain setting? It doesn't work that way.

    Guitar Amp Mic Options

Only by the retards and shitty soundguys. The rest of us who actually know something think you should just find a mic you like and use it.
