    TRS to TS 1/4" How?

Of course there is a point, such as hooking balanced preamp outs to unbalanced recorder inputs, like this guy is trying to do, if the manufacturer says they need to be wired in a certain way. zwh- do yourself a favor and read your manual. Most likely you can just use TRS or TS cables with no...

    TRS to TS 1/4" How?

You can either use a purpose-built cable or an adapter. The cable has the advantage of being easier to deal with, fewer connections, and less strain on the input connector, unless the adapter is one that uses a short piece of cable instead of making you hook two barrels together to make a...

    Line level input vs. DI

For the purposes of audio signals, current isn't important, but if it helps you visualize, cool. The important things are that the signal on the output of the DI is balanced, and is lower impedance than the input.

    Laptop purchasing decision

Wouldn't think of it, I'm a solid Mac fan, have been for awhile. I just personally think Macbooks don't make the cut as a good product. I think they are poorly designed and flimsy. G4 iBooks were way more solid. Plus, I just plain don't like glossy screens.:)

    Laptop purchasing decision

There are plenty of real reasons to not buy a macbook, forget about firewire.

    Microphone Trouble Shooting

Read the big thread at the top of the page about polar patterns and diaphragm size. And also look at the polar pattern for that mic and see if you can figure it out.:)

Yeah, the DVD thing is basically a temporary fallback until someone comes up with a way to make negatives from digital pictures.

    any mac people here

Reinstall it from the iLife disk. Punch your kid in the head first. ps- so you know- emptying the trash makes it basically impossible to recover the data without a third-party data recovery program.

    Terabyte drive

I agree with Tim- big doesn't mean slow- but certainly for anything where you need speed firewire is a must. I see a lot of inexpensive USB-only drives...which is fine, as long as you don't mind the speed hit. We just put in a 500GB ethernet drive as a media server plugged into a wireless router...

    Passive or Active DI?

This was the standard mantra for a long time, because with active instruments and things like keyboards it was really easy to clip older active DIs, which sounds like shit. Passive DIs would just saturate. But passive DIs can load down passive pickups, affecting tone, and have around 20db signal...

    Terabyte drive

For every person that loves a certain drive, someone else hates them. ps- no matter who makes the box, the drive inside is still probably going to be Seagate, Western Digital, Fujitsu, or Samsung. All hard drives fail eventually, and whether any particular one does or not at any given time is...

Tube amp ~ Switching cab's on standby?

I don't have time to go into it, but for one thing, of course it's OK if the standby switch is in play, because there's no B+, and so the tubes won't amplify anything.:p And an amp can easily drive itself into oscillation with no speaker attached, I'll lay it out later. Pieces yo.

Tube amp ~ Switching cab's on standby?

Then in many cases you would think wrong. Like I already said, you don't need an input signal for the trannie to fry itself. Depending on the situation, a trannie will fry itself very quickly indeed. Like in minutes. Or, it could sit all day. Probably not, though.:p Actually the hum is...
