Can someone recommend a decent drum set for studio use?

who said it was reasonable? anyway, I was just making a point and added another nine onto the 299, 'cause you aren't getting a dw kit for anywhere near that price. regarding the price...have you ever seen what custom built furniture runs price-wise?

Can someone recommend a decent drum set for studio use?

you meant to say $2999, right? I don't think even the cheapest DW Pacific kit can be had for that cheap....

    holding drumsticks

here's another perspective on technique from terry bozzio (thought very similar to co. jay's explan.): http://www.terrybozzio.com/techs.html I tend to follow the technique terry describes.....and it works pretty well for me.

    kick beater in wrong place??

really? ???????????... I completely agree with tim here..... a statement like this is absolutely absurd...what if you were playing a 26" kick drum? I don't think that they make beaters long enough to get to the center of the drum head.... that's like saying that must always strike...

    Recording a live show.

yeah, I agree with this - unless you're using a PA and have the drums mic'd, etc. - then you can take a feed off of the board. Otherwise just set up a pair of condensers, get a couple o' preamps and some type of recording device (eg. the minidisc that whoooooopy mentions above). latey, I've...

    lets talk cymbals

I don't think that stew always used the rudes in the studio...only live - so you actually don't hear them on the records (though he may have used them in studio previous to 1984??)... taken from a 1984 interview in Downbeat: "Cymbally speaking, on-stage it's Formula 602 13-inch medium hi-hats...

    Overhead mic

the MXL 603s get pretty high marks around here for use as drum overheads - and they can be had for <$100 a piece. I have a pair of Rode NT3s and I absolutely love 'em and use them all the time as drum overheads and for stereo recording in general. They are a bit pricier ($150/piece). I also...

Recording now skips on Hard drive, what causes this

Re: Re: Recording now skips on Hard drive, what causes this good-dog - since you've already had success with recording a number of your tapes to your hard-drive, the 4 "solutions" posted above are all very unlikely to be your problem. pops&clicks are more likely caused by something...

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP I'm drowning here(too many soundcards)

delta 66 does not have any built-in preamps.....you may be thinking about the 66/omnistudio combo....the omnistduio has 2 preamps aardvark does have 8, thus it's higher price other interfaces with 8 preamps: motu 896 ST Audio DSP3000 M-Port 24-Bit 96kHz Multi-Channel Interface you can also...

    Best soundcard/mic combo?

you would monitor what you're recording by routing the channels that you want to monitor the the audiophile channel outs; making sure that audiophile outs are set to 'monitor mixer' (this is in the audiophile software). you then hook up the audiophile outs to whatever you would like to monitor...

    Compression in Auxillary Mode?

ok, I see what you want to do now.... I don't think that it's possible to compress 4 separate channels unless you have a 4 channel compressor...

    Compression in Auxillary Mode?

maybe I'm being a bit dense here...but to get the full benefits of compression, you'd want to send the full signal into the compressor - not just part (ie. by using inserts, not aux send). if you only want to compress a little bit - then get there by adjusting the compressor settings...

    Best soundcard/mic combo?

actually, the delta 1010lt does have 2 preamps. Here are the specs: http://www.midiman.net/products/m-audio/1010lt.php' regarding connections, both of the midiman preamps (audiobuddy and dmp3) have 1/4" balanced outs....the delta66 has 1/4" balanced ins.. I think that that audiophile has rca...

    Best soundcard/mic combo?

I don't think that you're going to find too many interfaces with built in preamps in that price range... the audiophile and dmp3 combo would be great...but it's gonna run you more like $350 - if you wanted to expand to more than 2 ins and were willing to spend 350-400 - you could go for...

    Best soundcard/mic combo?

stay away from SB cards for recording purposes...unless you really don't care about the quality;) note that along with a mic and soundcard, you're going to need a separate preamp - unless you get a card that includes one...

    Homerecording vs. drumming

being a drummer and home recording enthusiast...I constantly run across these situations! My current situation has me choosing between 3 things: an 8 input recording interface (eg. delta1010lt; a new mixer (soundcraft spirit e6); or a new chinese cymbal (and possibly ride)... I currently have...
