    behringer mixers

fine, maybe I have a bad unit as you say. problem is, there's a heck of alot of bad units out there. however, I'm dead on RIGHT about the preamps...you CAN hear a difference between the behringers and those in a more expensive 'professional' mixer. even on my little 'home studio' monitors.

    behringer mixers

not sure I can agree with you here.....I have a behringer 1604 for my little home studio and my bands guitarist has a soundcraft ghost in his studio - recorded with both, mixed with both....you can definitely hear the differences - particularly the preamps also, my behringer has some channel...

Digital recording levels - safe or pushing?

nope, I'm specifically referring to clipping (as the awful distortion)...like I said (and bluebear there too), why push it and take a chance? I learned the hard way....

Digital recording levels - safe or pushing?

I tend to be a bit on the conservative side since digital distortion isn't pretty and isnt' something that you want to commit to disc (unless, of course, that's what you're looking for!).

    wuhan china cymbals

agreed...if you're buying from a store... - it's kinda hard to do though when you're ordering from catalog (ie. musician's friend)

    wuhan china cymbals

how true....since musician's enemy has had the $9.99 12" wuhan deal going on - I know 4 people that have gotten one (how can you not for that price?) = each one sounding COMPLETELY different than the other. the one that I got is super dark - while one of my friends got one that's incredibly...

    tuning a kit for recording

did you start out with new heads? the 'tuning bible' method isn't going to work as well if the heads that you're using are stretched (ie. used). the bible's method is really pretty straight forward when you boil it down to the basics. you seat a head, then tune it to the 'fundamental' tone...

    How to improve BD sound

yeah, I never used to pay attention to the 'theory' stuff either...until I read the tuning bible and tuned my drums accordingly....and got AMAZING results! it's important to know the theory (fundamentals) so that you can understand what's going on when you are tuning.

    How to improve BD sound

each drum shell has a fundamental tone check this out: http://www.drumweb.com/profsound.shtml I could write an explanation of the fundamental tone of a drum, but Professor Sound does it so much better.

    How to improve BD sound

what kind of beater are you using? you're going to have a hard time getting a 'click' sound with a felt beater (if that's the case), I would try a wood or plastic beater. the other thing that I would try is to add an sm57 inside of the kick pointing towards the beater impact point. this will...

Pc Based Daw For Under $700

FYI: last month's issue of EQ had a good article on building a DAW for under $400. If I remember right, this $400 didn't included budget for a soundcard (it used onboard audio which is a bad choice)...however, you can get a audiophile 24/96 for $150 and still be under $700. http://www.eqmag.com/

    snare and high hat bleeding....

is the 57 pointing away from the hi-hat? I usually try to position the snare mic between the hi-hat and snare pointing directly away from the hi-hat....I place the mic about 2-3 inches above the snare rim at about a 45degree angle. works pretty well for me (and I don't get much hihat bleed)....

    Best soundcard for recording drums.

agreed regarding the delta44, great quality for little price! buying a 44 is'nt really limiting yourself for future upgrades since you can chain up to 4 delta 44's together.... here's the combo that I'd go with: delta44 (~$200) spirit e6 (~$300) that's $500 and you'll get 4 high quality...

    Ny new kit!

dude...you are a kit building machine! that's the 2nd kit that you built, right? I seem to recall another in a light natural wood finish (or maybe I'm just crazy!):D good job man, looks great. I'm sure they sound awesome.

    LD drum overheads

I've used a pair of CAD Equitek E200s as drum overheads with great results....they are a bit warmer, fuller, richer sounding than what I usually use as OHs (Rode NT3s)...

    Drum Sounds on my pc

fruity loops is a friendly little sequencer....biggest drawback is the inability to program in odd times it comes with some decent sounds...and there are mounds of good free drum sound downloads that you can get your hands on and load into the system

Can someone recommend a decent drum set for studio use?

not to split hairs here, but $299 (the price originally quoted in jblount's message) for a DW WOULD be very reasonable...(as a matter of fact, it would be a steal!!) :D I was the one who added the extra 9 and turned it into 2999.. peace pratt:p
