Tuning the snare without the ring?

Re: rings I've never had issues really with 'em recorded. Having said that - I don't normally record with them either as I like some ring in my snare.. I'll have to give the moon-gels a try sometime as I've heard nothing but good stuff about 'em. another cheapo solution is to just stick a...

Tuning the snare without the ring?

I'll second the O-rings idea. You can make your own from an old head or purchase some prefab ones. I believe that Remo makes some........ http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=52181 gotta agree though with the other posters....some ring is good

    floor tom tracking

Re: Re: Re: floor tom tracking a couple of points...coming from a drummer that also enjoys recording.... a well-tuned kit (or floor tom) isn't necessarilly just ready to record....a well tuned drum is going to resonate very well....which I've found, particlarly with my floor toms, isn't...

    Which Sticks Do You Use?

I've been playing with ProMark 7As (nylon tip) for about 10 years now.... just recently (past 8 months) I've been playing with a new band and we tend to get quite loud at times (and the studio that we practice in is a very 'live' room) - I'm at the point where I need to upgrade my sticks to...

Opinions on pre-amp & mic package

Re: I bought it yesterday both the bluetube and tubepre (and art tube mp for that matter) are 2 stage preamps - there is a solid state stage and a toob stage. That's why there are the 'gain' and 'drive' controls on the tubepre - the 'gain' is for the solid state portion and the 'drive'...

Opinions on pre-amp & mic package

I don't think so. The BlueTube and TubePre are both made by presonus - the bluetube is 2 channel, the tubepre 1 - the specs are slightly different which is why I concluded that they are not the same (ie. tubepre isn't just one channel of bluetube) The bluetube is ok....really great as a DI on...

    Best CDs of 2003 (production)

ditto on Radiohead, the Bad Plus and Bowie I had a hard time thinking of what 2003 records I bought? of the ones that I could think of, these stand out imho: Lake Trout - Another One Lost - lots of good experimental kinda production, in other words it don't sound like everything else Edie...

Opinions on pre-amp & mic package

I can't comment on the Oktava other than it would most likely sound a good bit better than a sony vocal mic. I have a presonus BlueTube and presonus firestation (with 2 preamps) - both of these preamps (bluetube and firestation) have a toob that you can route some signal through (or none, if...

Re: it really doesnt matter oh boy....here we go again. there was an equally ridiculous statement made a month or 2 ago on this board. who cares? if that's your goal that's fine. I could care less if the stuff that I record ever makes it to the radio, etc. - but I still strive to make...

    Delta 44

you need a preamp for a microphone or something like a DI box for a guitar/bass - otherwise you're not going to get a usable signal. for guitar/bass, some amps have a preamp out that you can use to go direct into the delta. at the least you can get a cheap behringer mixer - there's one for $50...

    VST/32 -> SX - file compatability??

I'm looking to upgrade from VST/32 (5.0) to SX - can songs recorded/mixed in VST be opened in SX? I know that it's not back-compatible....(ie. VST/32 songs cannot be opened in earlier versions)

Zoom rt123 or Boss Dr Rhythm 550?

Re: Re: Re: Zoom rt123 or Boss Dr Rhythm 550? that's cool. I haven't heard the zoom box...but as I stated before - you're probably not going to get real good drum (or bass) sounds out of it. but if that's all that you can afford... good luck

Zoom rt123 or Boss Dr Rhythm 550?

assuming that you have a computer with an ok soundcard - you might want to explore the option of using a sequencing program that you can load real drum samples into...'cause you're not going to get realistic sounding drums from either of those 2 machines (or any of the other low end drum machines).
