    Tape Differences - 206/SM911

Just wanted to give a +1 for SM468. Compared to 911, *my* opinion is that 468 has more "presence" and clarity. I really enjoy it on my 8-track... I use it without NR and the very small amount of hiss built up over bounces can be EQed out pretty easily.

    Tascam M-520 headphone pot replacement

I feel like a total boob... I began my mixer-cleaning project after getting kinda buzzed on Friday night and I knocked one of my monitors over, which snapped the volume control pot shaft: So, I'm gonna figure out how to replace the volume pot. Stay tuned!

    Tascam M520 Story...

Cory, I'm trying to clean my M-520 and my faders look like the one on top: I can't figure out how to break them open to clean them... the housing seems to be pinched shut in a pretty permanent kind of way. Did you ever disassemble them to clean them?

Found a little gem in the ruff: TEAC Echo-8 analog echo unit

You don't hear that one too often...

Does changing tape formulations always require re-calibrating the deck?

Changing bias at the drop of a hat is something that only wealthy studios can afford to do. The only machine I'm aware of which can change bias "at the drop of a hat" is the Studer A827, which many consider to be the best production multitrack ever made. Usually, changing your deck's alignment...

Does changing tape formulations always require re-calibrating the deck?

Not necessarily. Let your ear be the judge, it will tell you want sounds 'right'. Ideally, each deck should be set up for a whatever tape you're using. But you can't argue with a good performance. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

    Muddy toms sound

It's also good to do during tracking especially if you're submixing; you can check for correct phase this way.

    1/2" RMGI SM468 pancakes?

They'd be awesome after a night of drinking... at that same hour when suddenly everything on the Denny's menu looks insanely delicious ;)

    1/2" RMGI SM468 pancakes?

RMGI's SM468 spec sheet says they don't offer 1/2" 468 in pancake, but I could swear I recently saw it on offer somewhere. I could be wrong. I emailed RMGI's US address and I'll see what they have to say. I finally stretched my cache of BASF PEM468 to its usable limit and dang it, I just want...

Hey tape fiends, I'm trying to find 1/2" RMGI SM468 in pancakes. It's hard enough to find 1/2" SM468 as it is, so does anyone know where I can find it on a hub??? Thanks!

Tascam 38 tracks will not erase

I can take a look at my 34b manual, because it seems hard to believe they didn't add a trim pot or some other way to adjust the erase level. The erase head may be out of alignment.... good point!
