To buy or not to buy...used VS-880EX...

Sorry, I misread your orginal. I thought you said 840EX. as for the .WAV conversion, check and be sure. That's a fairly new feature on the Rolands. I am not sure the earlier boxes had that. You might also want to look at the 890.

To buy or not to buy...used VS-880EX...

First off, I've seen them in my local MARS music for under $700--but you say this one has a hard drive? I assume it's external. If you can swing $800, find $200 more and get the 840GX which has the COSM guitar models and more importantly, the ability to convert a stero mix to .WAV files...

Another 840 Virtual Track usage question

Bouncing or submixing should fix the playback issue. I finally found in the manual where it says, that after bouncing, you have to "optimize" to actuall free up the "minutes." So I guess you've got to be really sure you're ready to bounce.

Another 840 Virtual Track usage question

I've got drum parts across three tracks (in this case 4, 5/6 and 7/8) plus two guitars and bass on 1,2,3. I have something like 20+ minutes remaining on the 250MB zip. I'm starting to get the "disk busy" error message, which means it is time to free up some tracks. If I bounce or submix all...

Anyone have Tips on getting the most out of

I have all of these "Virtual Tracks" at my disposal, but I'm having a hard time conceptiualizing what I should be using them for. Every time I record something, I'm still using a real track. I typically send two (stereo) outputs from a drum machine to the stereo "7/8" channel on my 840GX. This...

    The VS - 840 GX

I have the 840GX, and this is what that means: Once you mixdown your tracks to a stereo mix, you CAN save that mix to a .WAV file internally. You then remove the Roland formatted Zip disk, and put in a PC formatted Zip disk and copy it to the PC formatted disc. Unless you buy the additional...

    Can someone recommend a mic

MISTERQCUE I have an SM57 for the close mic, but I didn't think that or the 58 would be right for the room mic. To all: Don't I need an omnidirectional for the room mic?

    Can someone recommend a mic

I'd love to keep it in the $100-$200 range.

    Can someone recommend a mic

Need a decent "budget" room mic to pick up the distance/ambiant sound of the guitar amplifier. What types, makes/models should I be looking at?

    Home Recording desk/workstation furniture question

Aside from the Staples/Office Max style of office furniture which I know is available, does anyone have any links to any places that sell small desks designed specifically for Home Recording use(as opposed to a typical computer desk)? I've seen high-end stuff at places like Omnirax.com. but I...

    More BR8 questions

Thanks again guys. With your help, I settled on the VS-840GX. BTW, with this box you CAN convert to .WAV files internally. You mix down to two tracks (stereo) and save them as a .WAV. You can then copy them to a PC formatted 250MB Zip via the old disk shuffle method, or by hooking up an...

    VS-840GX vs BR-8 anyone?

Anyone know if the new VS-840GX is (almost) as user-friendly as the BR-8. While the Roland clearly has more "elbow room," and features than the Boss, they appear to be pretty close in terms of navagiation and how they work.

    More BR8 questions

Another question: Recording Magaizine review the BR-8 states that if the Zip is formated on the BR-8, a Windows PC will be able to read it--so you could back up your data. My question is: is there a way to convert the BR-8 files to .WAV files on my PC?

    More BR8 questions

Thanks guys. I think this is going to be the answer for me. I think if I have to rely on "other musicians" to get my rocks off musically, I'm going to go nuts. At first I thought being able to only record 2 tracks at a time on the BR-8 would be a serious limitation if I wanted to do live...

    More BR8 questions

Consider a BR8 and weighing the pros and cons. To me the primary benifit is Simplicity (over the VS840&880 series) --I'm new to home recording, and I REALLY don't want to spend 90% of my time tearing my hair out. And the biggest drawback is only being able to record 2 tracks at a time. If I...
