    Any logic users?

I run Logic with two MOTU firewire 828 mk II. It has many different Ins and outs including ADAT (nice for my Octopre) and I really like it ! The routing can be a bit of a handful, like working out which input is which into Logic (I had to rebuild a template in the middle of a recording...

    akg c 414

I have one (C414B XL II) and love it, very versatile, east to use. It is my first go to mic. I'd not hesitate to get a two if I could afford them ! I've used it on Vox (M & F), Acoustic Guitar, Blues electric guitar, flute and just love it !! I normally put it through a vt737 or a Focusrite...

    US/UK equipment query

Depends on the transformer. Some bits of kit will happily run on either 240V or 110V others will not. If it is a "not" then you will need both a step up (or down) transformer and a plug adapter. The differance in frequancy should not be a problem. Hope this helps

    Spdif pre/mixer?

Mackie make a firewire mixer the Onyx series I think. I haven't tried it but their kit has a really good rep. Also the MOTU 828s are nice. I have a couple of these and they serve as my I/O. They are not cheap though ! http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Onyx1220/...

    Spdif pre/mixer?

ART make a duel pre with digital out (DPS) for about 260 bucks. I have the non- digital version (TPS II) and really like it for clean guitar. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DPSII

    mic pre's with ADAT outs!!

I have and use a Focusrite octopre with the ADAT card which pipes it in to an MOTU 828 mk II. It is pretty sweet. The compressor / limiters are very twitchy and need a gentle hand to get right other than that it is sweet !

F/s Auralex platfoam for drum isolation

OK I have a box of Auralex platfoam (and glue) in mint condition that I want shot of. This is the product as described in the link. You will need to build some sort of top for it. This is the stuff you build drum isolation risers with to get better sound projection. It will not stop sound...

    selling nice Fender strat

I'm considering selling my Fender late '80s "I"seris USA made "Jap Strat". It has a maple neck and plays well. There is a little cosmetic ware and tare to the neck (worn varnish) however this doesn't effect the way it player. It has a red body and sounds really versatile. It has a bunch of...

    first go with this tune

http://homepage.mac.com/dr_simon_richardson/FileSharing3.html This is a long way from finished. The tracking still needs tweaking The EQ needs sorting, the bass comes and goes a bit and the drums need tightening up. May also add some backing vox and the cymbals are noticeably absent ! I'd...

what's the best rig to record direct with?

I have a pod XT and a Podpro and love 'em both ! I've never had any problems with noise with either even using a strat w/ single coils. I have used the podPro more than the XT but that is just cos its older. When I A/B them the XT (which is much more tweak-able and has lame distorted stock...

Your thoughts/Opinions on the avalon vt 737pre amp

I have one and it will sound great though I think you could probably get a better bang for your buck spreading the $$ out more. I have run my KSM44 through mine and it sounds lovely however I much prefer the sound of my AKG C414 which I think is more versatile (not a bad mic to have in your...

    Avalon U5 DI Box

Year, that Radial kit is nice! I have one of the Radial A/B/Y boxes. It was not cheap but it sure sounds nice ! I use it to split Bass signal and send half to the U5 and the other half to the amp which gets miked.

    Avalon U5 DI Box

have a look at the ART TPS (it is simple and affordable). It is not in the same league as some of the big boy Pres however I have been very pleasantly surprised by this little beauty and for 200 bucks !! Well !! It works really nicely on clean guitar and bass though Id have a mic running into...

    Avalon U5 DI Box

I have one it is great, though not the best bang for your buck. I have it shooting into a MOTU 828 mk II and it is great for bass though in all honesty my ART TPS II sounds better with direct clean guitar (surprised the hell out of me too !!). The tone shaping filters are a nice addition.

Need advice on running my own PA

This is a tough one as you need to be able hear what the PA is putting out whilst you are playing. If you are standing in front of the speakers (to hear what you sound like) you run the risk of everything feeding back. So, two options. 1) get to know your kit very well and have some ball-park...
