As much as I am pissed off by Tascam, I have to say they are willing to sell you a manual for anything they have ever made.

Cant you just turn down the mic input or trim control on the recorder?

Up until about two months ago, you could have downloaded one from Tascam.com in PDF format. However since they have "improved" their site by eliminating the free down loads and their bbs you have to buy one from their parts department.

Archives Too many of us analog fans dissed them for going digital, that they probably thought it was bad for business.

I miss the search feature on the old Tascam bbs. It allowed you to search the archives for the answers to questions that have been asked a million times. The black dot was good too, for those threads you have posted on and are waiting for an answer.

The special shielding material is called mu metal. It is expensive, but any conductive grounded metal enclosure will shield EM signals, even bronze window screening. It's called a Farraday Cage.
