    vocal booth

yeah, you can use particle board to make a booth, but it won't be very sound proof if that's what you're looking for. Judging by your user name, I'd say you do rap music or something like it? And you want a booth to track vocals? Are you doing this is a spare room of a house or apartment or...

    Absortion Panel(s) Placement

I think you're over thinking the tri corners. If you're not going to straddle the wall - wall corner with the 703, then all you can do is put the panels as close to the wall - ceiling corner as you can and be done with it. you already said you didn't want to cut up the 703. And I think you...

    ?rec.Metal demo?

For the money you'd spend in gear and room treatment (cause you'll need that most) You could find somebody in GA that would give you a day or two in a studio for a decent Demo. Just make sure that all your songs are tight as can be before you go in. If your primary focus is being in a metal...

    Which way to monitor...

John Sayer has done drawings of control rooms in corners but there is a good deal of absorption to make a reflection free zone at the listening position. Sonic's idea would be viable if you had enough room to put in some serious absorption and bass traps. That may not be possible for this...

    Absortion Panel(s) Placement

How big's the mirror need to be? I suppose you would just swivel around in your chair to follow the mirror around the room?

Would that be from the mix position?

    Green to ADAT

some people track to like an Alesis HD24 then dump them in to PC via fireport or in some cases re-track using the HD24 as the source and something like a MOTU 2408 or the RME 96/52 for the PC interface. At least I think the latter is done that way.

Please Recommend A Great Compact Mixer

I couldn't disagree more!!! To throw in my 2 cents, You should be able to get a nice board for $1000. How many channels do you absolutely need? I'm assuming 12 from your first post. Find a good used mixer. That way you get better specs for less money. DON'T BUY BEHRINGER!!!!!!

    Apartment Building.. Better Acoustics?!?

The more reflective surfaces in your space, the more "busy" the sound is bouncing around in there which may give the appearence of 'better" sonics but, not necessarily. I'd keep the hard wood floors and if I needed to I'd treat theceilings before I touched the floors. Use area rugs when...

    Quitting

I agree. Too bad you can't get insurance to pay for your gear though. Life is Pain. Music is Morphine

    Apartment Building.. Better Acoustics?!?

I see what your saying and that's good... You understand the importance of treatment and the benefit of course will be an even better sounding room than what you now have. Congrats!

    Apartment Building.. Better Acoustics?!?

You may not notice any real problems in your room but, I bet you could tell a difference (for the better) if you went ahead and treated it. No room should be without some bass trapping and reflection absorbers. My 2 cents.

    upgrading home studio

An Alesis HD24 and an Alesis Fireport is the only reasonably priced, rock solid choice. (IMO) Of course you'd need a mixer for monitoring. One with good pres to boot. Many people like the Mackie Onyx. I can't recommend it because I've never heard it. Still anything Mackie is better than...

    Old house

My advice to you guys is to call AT LEAST three electricians who advertise FREE ESTIMATES and get them to diagnose any problems and give you a WRITTEN estimate. Also ask for CUSTOMER REFERENCES so you can check and see if they've done good work in the past for a decent price. Then do your...

    What's With Crate Anyway?

I had a crate combo amp some 15 years ago. I'm a firm believer that Companies like Crate, Marshall, Mesa, etc. have all got amps in their product lines that suck. Question is: Are the sounds coming out if them usable for you? If so, then buy one. If not, keep looking. I've gotten a good...

    5000$ for Mic Pres....

For $5K, I'd get 2 Great River MP2-NV's and spend the extra $700 on a mic or two or maybe some acoustic treatment. OR I'd just spend it on 2 API 3124+'s and be done. Either way, I'd be a winner.

Goog small amp for recording metal

I know everybody's going nuts with the tube vs. modeler vs. solid state thing but, I just want to simply give my answer to the original question. I bought a Fender Blues Jr. and a Boss MT-2 and I get a totally usable metal tone from this little combo. Less than $600 and I have a ton of tonal...
