I have a modified trick like this, (I'm sure most of you have done it too). If there's an extra bar I just have the singer start early and sing the first line twice.

Yeah, For 1/4 and 1/2" there isn't a minimum, but 1" and 2" it 2 reels. And I managed to get all the way thru that reel i ordered from pro-tapes and had absolutely no problems with it. I checked my machine afterwards and no gunk on the heads!

It's not really answering your question totally, but when I use the omnis for the basic fundamentals of the kit I've gotten a lot of cool sounds when I use a brighter room mic for the overtones and detail, it gives you this really solid yet far away drum sound. No need for close mics if you do...

Haha yeah I've had that happen to me too. I think that sometimes the transients of the condensers can be too much sometimes, and their tendency to get EVERYTHING can be overwhelming .

I like to set up one overhead right away, get the levels good and listen and say, "ok does this sound good?" if no I'll change the mic to something I think would be a little more flattering if the first mic had an unappealing mid bump I'll look for something a little less mid rangey, etc. If it...

I ended up ordering from a company in texas named pro-tape. It was great, they had it shipped to my house in 2 days with just standard shipping. I ran the tape and recorded some drums and everything seems to be good. No residue on the heads afterwards, not squealin like some of my older tapes...
