    Monitors on desk or stand

Do not overlook setting up your room. This can quickly and easily become the weakest point in your set up. Can never stress that enough

    Recording Fuzz Guitar

When setting the levels on your amp get nice and close to it so you can hear what the mic is going to hear and if your not the one playing the guitar plug one ear and put the other right up to the amp, maybe 8 inches away, and move your head around till you find a good spot, put the mic there...

    dbx NR tips

Sometimes I'll record bass guitar with and without noise reduction and then when I turn the NR on the one I recorded without it will pump a lot and I'll blend em to taste and it gives a cool pulse to the recording. Not sure if that's totally on topic but its a cool NR trick nonetheless! -Barrett

    Need some advice...

I had to do this with my 24 track....I think in total we had over a hundred tracks. We'd filled up 22 of em then bounce em down to 2 then fill up 20 bounce em down to 2 etc. This was only because this song was about 10 minutes long and it was like 5 or 6 different parts and the band would change...

    Recording drums help

Hey man welcome! I would say first off post a little more info, never hurts to give as much info as possible, that way its easier for people to figure out where the weak points are in your signal chain. Let us know what kind of drums he's playing, what kind of cymbals, is he a hard hitter or a...

    ATR Magnetics + RMGI SM900?

Not sure if this helps much...I've never used ATR but I buy the RMGi SM911 and I really like it. The first thing I noticed when I started buying from RMGi (I use to use a bunch of old BASF tapes, and as you may know RMGi took over BASFs 911 formula) was that I was EQing less because the sounds...

recording drums when tracking whole band live

I'm with nate on this one. And with regards to later mixing, if you get the instruments down, get everything sounding good in the room, get everyone playing well and feeling well, your mix will be there. Very often I'll track everything live and when it comes time to mix I set levels and I'm...

Mixing advice needed for retro song (Piano+Vocal)

Very cool tune! But yes when you click on the Mastering Forum, ridght below "Because mastering is not mixing." ;) I would first just put the two tracks at levels where you can hear each pretty well and then decide what needs to be done from there, whether its a touch of verb or some light...

    Double LP strange side orders

Ah this all makes perfect sense now. My band use to cover Mr. Blue Sky, the drummer was a huge ELO fan so we had to appease him, but after hearin it for the first time I was hooked. I got to do the low "PLEASE TELL US WHY" It was a lot of fun to play. Thanks for the answers guys, -Barrett

    Double LP strange side orders

I have a few double LPs that have sides A and D on one disc and B and C on another. What's the purpose of this? A buddy of mine said that it was usually a mistake but I dunno about that... I figured it was for if you wanted sides B and C to flow better, but you still gotta flip the record...

    Mastering opinion please

Respected by the masses or not its well known that metal fans are some of the most loyal fans in music. Think about how MANY people love lady gaga, think about how many are as loyal to her as some are to bands like slayer. I don't see anyone carving 'lady gaga' into their arm! (A number of kids...
