    Horizontal, Vertical, thicker?

yes...like ethan said, extra important that you double up in the corners. Vertical and Horizontal won't matter too much, you want to place the absorbers where they are going to catch the reflections.

    Home Studio Newbie Seeks Advice

If I were you i'd buy some drum track software that works with a midi controller to make some beats, not an external machine. Pod route is cool if you like what you hear. make sure you use quality cables if you want quality sound. I'll add more later.

703 would be the best. And if you didnt Mash it up when droping it into place, you could probably use a bed shet wrapepd around it and drop it into place and it would looks great, burlap would work too. That is probably your best bet, especially if the tiles in your ceiling are 4'x2'.

Panda's idea is genious...and What I mean about the drop tile is. usually a drop tile piece would be 4' x 2' or 2'x2'. what you do is, instead of ruingign the ceilign tile, make a cardboard one, then use some spray adhesive for foam, and let it hand where the normal drop tile would. it looks...

I only covered the cloud area... If you have a drum set in that room, I would put a cloud above that as well, but that is just me. I will try to help on some other questions too, I just know the drop tile question because I worked with it. Good luck!

in my drop tile ceiling, I made cardboard cutouts the size of tiles and spray adhesived foam on them so they dropped in place a foam tiles 4 pieces on a 2'x2' piece. worked great, the bass frqs seems to keep going (not reflecting) and the highs and mids wer stopped. I liked it. I'm sure...

    Bass Traps Outside the room?

Agreed, that would only be kind of ideal for "sound proofing." Even then, there is still much more to sound proofing. Bass traps are meant to be in the room.

    Acoustic panel questions

I'm pretty sure that I read that if one corner is bass trapped, then one on the opposite side of the wall away from it would not need one. I think you would be fine with super chunks on the mixing desk wall only, and a cloud would help, it is also good to get the back wall as dead as possible...

    Acoustic panel questions

Oh man, the itching is the worst, figerglass and burlap...so much itching. And yet, I haven't learned my lesson. Each time I make a trap, I always think "Oh none will get on my skin this time." I'm wrong every time!

Makes sense, I like that idea.

    Acoustic panel questions

It's all in the mass I believe. I use 4'' rigid fiberglass panels ceiling to floor in the corners for my traps...They tame lows. Probably could use 6''. Superchunks would give your more mass, which means it would tame even lower frequencies than the panels to a certain extent. If I am correct, I...

    Building Vocal Booth Need Advice

commercial studio, home studio??? isolation, or taming reverb??? sounds like my your dimensions you already have a plan. But nobody will be able to build an efficient vocal booth for you unless you tell how you want it used.
  14. Shout It Out

    Acoustic panel questions

Well...that is ideal for non bass trapping...You see, the air gap between the insulation and wall is important because that pocket of air is helpful for the reflection coming back off of the wall. The air space gives the sound a place to bounce off the wall and come right back through the...

    Acoustic panel questions

Super chunk is ideal, I use 4'' panels from ceiling to floor, cause I didnt have enough for chunks.

    let me see your studio!

I haven't been around for a while. It's time for me to start looking for some good mics and maybe go with a computer based studio. But this setup has been really getting the job done for demoing. Here is the room where I mix Here is the "live room"/rehearsal area Here are the drums and the...

The Second song my band did on a Korg d3200

Alright we did a song back in september. This one we did this week. It's sloppy, and played too fast, but whatever. The choruses don't sound great. But I like the way the verses and break turned out. Tell me what you think http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=6076 drums: Gretch nady...
