Haha thanks, I'll probably be around here for a while, after all, there's always more to learn.
I spelled his name wrong. Ah well, no biggie. I'll just go buy two SM58's now (after all, that's the good stuff), and a U87. And I'll be sure to record in my bathroom. Oh and I've decided to take...
Good to know. Most of the guitar recording I do goes through an amp program.
Interesting mod kit. Although I only listened to both tracks for about 30 seconds each, it sounds like the mod kit stacks up rather nicely. Thanks for the info.
What would you have to say about the book, is it just the bare basics or?
EDIT: Just read the description, I think I'll buy it, thank you very much. And yes, YouTube helped me out immensely when I first jumped into recording, especially Ted Donnely, he's certainly got knowledge beyond his years ;)
To be honest, I'm pretty sure the only MXL mics I have ever used were the extreme budget MXLs, never tried the V67g or V67i though.
Lets see if I can't make a list of those I have tried:
MXL 990
MXL 990s (I figured the "s" would make a difference. My mistake)
MXL 993
MXL R144
and
MXL 603s
I do...
I guess I'm the only one who has issues with MXL mics? My advice is to pick up an AT2035 for about $160 or w/e it is now. They really are excellent mics for the price.
As an aside, don't trust amazon ratings, that's where the professional reviewers go to make wild claims about how amazing...
Ah, good old ebay. Check craigslist first, might get lucky, and usually it saves you a couple bucks if you can find something there.
Perhaps you should look into USB interfaces as well. Generally speaking I've heard better things about USB as opposed to FireWire.
What you are talking about is Mixing, not Mastering.
Do you have an ASIO driver? If not, then google it and download ASIO4all.
And what comes next all depends on what you are trying to do, and what you are recording.
Exactly what I was thinking. Acoustic guitar in Hip-Hop? Starting a new trend are we?
I second REAPER, very easy to use and very powerful. Plus it comes with some pretty decent plugins.
You don't really need a mixer if you get a good interface.
My question is simple, how did you guys learn about recording? There is a wealth of knowledge represented here in this forum, but how did you guys get this knowledge? Was it trial and error or did you mostly learn from other people?
Also, I have been thinking about taking a few courses in Music...
Everybody I've ever talked to has had tons of issues with anything Presonus.
I would recommend getting a FireWire card.
Any idea why you prefer FireWire over USB?
I'm pretty sure that any of these are going to have pretty damn good sound quality, but be sure to test all the channels before...
