    Need Advice or Help!

If you co-wrote it you have every right to play it, sign it to a publishing contract, record it...whatever. So does he. You don't need each other's permission to do that stuff. Otherwise, every time I played a song out at a writers' round I'd have to call my co-writers and ask permission ;)...

Sonar 4 - To upgrade or not to upgrade. That is the question.

Hmmmm...I'm sure I'll upgrade eventually. Just because it seems to hurt less to keep up with the upgrades then get a couple behind and then catch up.

How many people copywrite their music before posting online?

A little more reading on the subject. Please pay attention to what Musicrowlawyer says in this thread. Especially at the end. It's left a little hanging, but he cites chapter and verse on the subject toward the end. Also, there are a couple good links in the thread that other folks posted too...

What to do with my songs!!

Songwriters' Market is a great resource. Just make sure you still check out any publishers who are interested in your stuff thoroughly. I've met some interesting characters who have listed in that book. ;). Good luck!!! Yes we do all need that too. But the harder you work, the luckier you...

How many people copywrite their music before posting online?

Geez guys!!! How many times does Gidge have to post that link? Have y'all read it? ;). From a little deeper in the site. As you can see, there are certain damages that you CAN"T get unless you register the copyright. http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#cr COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION In...

How many people copywrite their music before posting online?

I'm not an attorney, but I can tell you that there are damages that you can't sue for in Federal Court if you don't register your copyright. You can only get full protection with the registration. If I get a chance, I'll see if I can dig up some old threads at another site where the subject was...

    Any good success stories ($)?

I am officially an ASCAP member as of a couple days ago, so the big bucks ought to be rolling in any time now. ;) :D :D

What to do with my songs!!

Step 1. Before you go spend money on demos on your songs, please get an honest critique of them from people who know what they are talking about. The streets of Nashville are paved with the money beginning songwriters have paid for demos that should never have been made. In a sense, even the...

How many people copywrite their music before posting online?

10000 x $0.085 = $850. Just over small claims type bucks. Nope. Probably not even worth him going after on his own. Registering the copyright would not change this fact ;) :D

How many people copywrite their music before posting online?

You need to talk to a different lawyer. Any competent music attorney will tell you the opposite. Sorry. I see you are from Canada. Maybe things work differently up there. That doesn't hold up down here. The only way to truly protect yourself in case it is necessary is to register your copyright...

    Methods of notating songs

Gosh, speaking for myself, I'm certainly not upset. Just pointing out a different way of doing things. :) I have heard some very good songwriters that say they don't keep hook books. Most, howerver do. I have also heard songwriters who used to use the "if it's good I won't forget it" method and...

    Methods of notating songs

Hmmmm...I did a title search on ASCAP & BMI with no hits on the hook. This might just be too good to be true. Like I said it's soooooo....obvious that I can't believe it hasn't been done yet. This song needs a good writin'!!!! (sorry, I'm just so excited because I thought this surely would have...

    Methods of notating songs

That's me to a T. The only way I have to combat it is to set myself up with a sysem I can follow, else chaos ensues :D. That reminds me...I heard someone utter words on the radio on my way back from lunch that would be a great hook for a Christian song. It's so obvious that I'd be surprised if...

    Methods of notating songs

I know you qualified this statement in the end, but I just wanted to address this. I have heard a lot of "learning" songwriters say this. Pehaps it is true for some people. It is, however, prettty standard for the pro writers here in Nashville to have pages and pages of hooks in their "hook...

    Methods of notating songs

Heck, this is a tougher question than it appears. I have an organizer/3-ring binder thingy I carry around with me everywhere I go. I have 3 sections I call "hooks" "working lyrics" and "lyrics". In the "hooks" section I list any hooks or ideas that come to my head before they escape, many times...
