    How crappy are my mixes

Not bad! I agree with poplinger - the vocals are a bit dry. I think the vocals and drums need more presence. Nice song though!

    lyrics: a question of taste

Hmm. I don't recall a Sting song saying "realm of the senses". "Empire of the senses" - yes (Love Is The Seventh Wave). IMO, you could do a lot worse than be compared to Sting.

BR-8 line out -> computer gives me hum

It isn't a laptop is it? I know it's a problem with some laptops (including mine :(), that you get bad noise from the line out. In my case, it's the actual noise of the computer processing - you can hear when you move the mouse etc. etc. It makes my computer completely unusable as a sound...

Let's share some chord progressions w/ dim chords

Aah, the chord vii: diminshed vs mb5 issue :D It is kinda related to the dim vs dim7 issue. Generally, if you extend a dim chord, you get dim7, and if you extend mb5 (i.e. minor w/ b5) you get m7b5. Let's stick to C major for examples. Bdim7 = B D F Ab Bm7b5 = B D F A Now - chord vii, you...

Let's share some chord progressions w/ dim chords

Yes. And in all these cases, the dim chords are subs for dominant 7ths - this is a very common use for dim chords. With Fdim F# major, the Fdim is a sub for C#7, and with Cdim C#, the Cdim is a sub for G#7. In that first gospel example, the F# dim is a sub for D7. And very often the next...

Let's share some chord progressions w/ dim chords

In a sense. Using enharmonic equivalents - C+, for example contains C E G#. E+ contains E G# C, and G#+ contains G# C E. So, any given augmented chord contains the same pitches as the augmented chords rooted on the other notes of the chord. But, C+ and E+ are *not* the same thing - even...

Yamaha P80. Does yours have crap samples?

Hmm, I've not heard of the P60 - I don't think it's out yet in this country. And, P80 action "slow & mushy"? I guess pianos are *very* subjective things :) I'm no stranger to playing grand pianos (and piano is my instrument) - and to me, the action is pretty damn good. But, whatever floats...

Let's share some chord progressions w/ dim chords

Actually, technically, A+ is A C# E# :D F is not the augmented 5th, it's the minor 6th. E# is the augmented 5th. As regards dim chords - a dim7 works as a sub for a 7b9 chord. BluesMeister, you said "Let's not forget my fellow pluckers that a Diminished chord is a triad and a Diminished 7th...

Do you really care about 24/96?

Very good point about headroom, actually. I'm using a VS2480 - which has 56-bit internal processing :)

Do you really care about 24/96?

I'm not bothered with 96k. I'm happy to go for 16/44.1, if necessary. My DAW however uses 24/44.1 as the standard recording mode - so I use that.

No, unison, I believe :) You'd have to be posting different, but complementary answers for it to be harmony :D
