Well, with the Delta 1010 your getting 8 channels of conversion only. In order to get from the mic to the interface (delta1010) your going to need a preamp for each simutanious mic you will be using. You can use mic pres from a mixer but it does not need to be a powered mixer to do this...

this^^^^ I DI only on the bass but I use a Vintech preamp and a MIJ fender squier bullet bass from the 80's. I don't think I would get much better mic'ing an amp using that bass. I am pleased with the results.

Ok... then why did you ask the question? How do you know it does the same thing mathematically? Did you look over the shoulder of the people that developed both plug-ins? Can you not hear the difference between the two? Or is it that you need some justification for using free plug-ins?

I would say the difference is going to be in the controls or parameters and quality. Same deal with the VST instuments.
