24-bit not working in SONAR 7

Along with the menu item Hard2Hear mentioned above, you can also change the bit-depth on a project-by-project basis, via the "Change Audio Format" option on the Tools menu.

    New to parallel compression

You want the Sonitus:fx Phase plugin in that case. Options | Global Then hit the VST Plug-ins tab Select the folder that contains the plugin in question, and hit the "Folder Defaults" button. The last checkbox on that dialog is "Enable delay compensation" It works on a folder-by-folder...

    Sonar 5 Mixdown Problem

Have you tried exporting with "fast bounce" turned off? If that doesn't work, try increasing the latency on your audio driver.

Dither - My Ears can't hear it

As a long time HR.com lurker with mad respect for the regular contributers, this thread depresses me. Anyone in the same boat, I urge you to spend some time with PCABX. Learn how to listen for yourself, and the importance of double-blind tests. Then make up your own mind about what is and isn't...

Digital Noise When Processing In Sonar Home Studio 4

I haven't used Home Studio 4, but in Sonar Producer 4 there's a checkbox on the "bounce" screen that enables "fast bounce." It's turned on by default, but if your setup is running low on resources, the fast bounce will often yield sonic oddities. Try turning it off and see if that helps.

Dither - My Ears can't hear it

I knew a guy, Paul, who lost the ability to taste Tabasco sauce after years of seasoning his foods with Scotch bonnet peppers. To him, Tabasco might as well have been water. Paul also fancied himself a chef. I ate his cooking a few times, and invariably couldn't finish the meal because my...

    Recording volume changes?

Enable the track's Automation-write mode. There's a "write" button above the faders for each track that turns red when it's enabled.

Dead battery? Faulty cable? Loose wire in the guitar? Do you have an amp you can try the guitar through?

recording using a DAW and a multi track recorder

It depends a little on your DAW, but in principle it should work fine. The PXR4 outputs compressed files which your DAW will need to know how to handle. And the PXR4's files are sampled at 32KHz, so your DAW will need to upsample (unless you work at 32KHz in the DAW too, but I don't think the...

i thought it is best to record around -18dbfs

Tim, the PSW links that mixsit posted show that this isn't the case, thanks to intersample peaks. Nika Aldrich's article "The Consequences of Traditional Digital Peak Meters" explains the concept well. It's available here: http://www.cadenzarecording.com/papers.html As Paul Frindle...

Sonar 6 producer audio settings problem

The "ASIO Panel" button takes the place of the "Wave Profiler" button when you're using ASIO drivers. But that doesn't help much at this point. Have you tried asking on the Cakewalk forum? http://forum.cakewalk.com/default.asp

Sonar 6 producer audio settings problem

Alan, any chance you're using XP-64 bit? Some ASIO drivers only work in 32-bit mode, and since Sonar 4 didn't have support for the 64-bit O/S, that would explain why things broke when you upgraded DAWs.

    Doubling Tracks. Any Other Way?

You can run into mono-compatibility issues with this approach. Recording two separate takes definitely yields the best results. But if it's too late to add a second track, you can often fake it in a DAW by cutting-and-pasting parts from your mono track. I wrote a walkthrough on doing it in...

    weak snare

Hey carvin, if you're still looking for options, a while ago I put together a list of free drum replacement plugins, a few of which generate midi notes based on the incoming signal level. If you need free snare samples, you could do far worse (depending on your source material) than the free NS Kit

How to fix off-beat drums without re-recording?

With the 6.2 update to Sonar, this is really easy. You'd start by enabling Audiosnap on the kick track, and finding the transients (tweaking the threshold so it's only finding true kick hits, and none of the bleed.) Then select the whole track and use the "Add Transients To Pool" command...
