I just got and installed an 80 gig hard drive into my computer for music purposes. My primary hd is a smaller 12 gigs. The 80 gig as now is my slave.
Can I set Cakewalk Sonar 2 up so that it saves to my 80 gig slave rather than my 12 gig primary? Thanks! btw - windows 2K.
Andrew.
So to wrap up...antique microphones are basically old and crappy sounding with the exception of a few gems.
My next question is...
What are the gems? I saw RCA 44 a couple times. What are the more sought after old mics? Are they worth it either?
mostly the random mics that come through on e-bay. "Elvis" style shures and such. I'm more interested in whether or not these things actually work good for people like us. Good sound?
good tips
Alright, as much as I hate to say it. The guitar is an invador into the bass spectrum. I'm gonna try adjusting the mids more than the bass and see how it sounds. Chances are (I know) the bass won't be there on the guitar like I like it. But maybe the mix'll be better for it.
I, like most of us am always in the market for good microphones. I've dug a bit on this site and there's no real threads dealing with the question of vintage mics.
1st - are these worth anything for the home recording musician?
2nd - Do they have flavors comparable to today's mics?
Perhaps...
It has potential.
The eq is a definite issue. The overal mix is flat and is begging for depth.
Also, the rhythm guitar panned hard left is too monotenous in my opinion. It wants more permutations in the rhythm. (again in my opinion)
Good start though for your first song.
Andrew.
I'm still learning the ins and outs of my Delta 66. What I can't figure out is how to record a track (vocal for instance) while playing back another track (guitar for instance) without the guitar being recording along with the vocal track. Does anyone know how to block that listening track...
so let me get this straight
I just got an omni studio and am struggling with the same concept.
The normal way to do this is to record "with all the sound in the left channel or input 1" for instance and then pan it afterwards however you want it?
mixing basses
I have the same problem with bass guitar and acoustic guitar. Since I prefer a naturally bassy guitar, it interferes with the actual bass guitar. Can you compensate with different frequencies while still keeping both "bassy"?
mic economy
The next item I'm picking up is a microphone specifically for vocals. I've been told a shure 58 is a good value with deep bass. Apparently, pros use em all them time, but in what capacity I don't know. What's the best recording mic for value in the 200 maybe 300 dollar range...
Mics and mics
Thanks Paul881 for the tips especially on mic placement. I never thought of an ambiance mic like you talked about.
Do you think it's worth the BULKY free space to place as many mics as you can around the guitar (6 for the delta 66) to get a "fatter" sound?
I'm starting my second home recording project.
I've upgraded to an M-audio delta 66 with omni midiman. I use cakewalk for recording and T-racks for mastering. I play mostly acoustic singer songwriter stuff.
My question is...what are the next steps to making it sound pure and professional...
