Playing from my CD drive into cakewalk

Thanks Mr Lip What I want to do is this. I have a cd I recorded at a studio elsewhere. Can I get it to be recognized by cakewalk so I can play it "in cakewalk" so I can manupulate it if I choose. One question though, I'm told that to convert the song to wav it takes about 10mg per minute of...

Why record vocal on two tracks

My vote goes for the vocal being sung twice. I don't like the idea of making a "copy" of the first vocal because it's the little things that give the sound it's flavor. Most people sing the samr passage the same way so there is usually not a problem. Just make sure you "try" to sing the vocal...

    making vocals sound front.

The best way is not to add too much reverb. The dryer the signal the more upfront it will sound. The more reverb you have the deeper it will sound and the farther away it will sound. Another good method is to compress the vocal track so the vocals are a constant volume source. Play with your EQ...

    reducing feedback

First question I have is are you using monitors. They are famous for feedback if turned too high. You want to hear your vocals not use them like mains. Second do you have the mains even with or ahead of the mikes. If you have the mains too far behind the mikes the mikes will pick up the extra...

    Acoustic pickups

I like the idea of miking acoustic guitars. For one you have a broad range of tones you can get just by positioning the mike in different places. Also by miking you let the guitar "breathe" and give the notes time to develop out the soundhole. Try a AKG 3000 mike they soung great for acoustics...

anyone know how to make a patchbay?

Check out the Dragon's section on making patchbays, very informative. Question though, they only cost around seventy toeighty bucks so why go through the hassle unless your building a very small one. Remember in the future you might have more equipment you want to hook-up through this patchbay.

Playing from my CD drive into cakewalk

Hello Hoping I can get some quick help without reading all that cakewalk has to offer. Is it possible to play a cd on the computer and have it play through cakewalk or do you have to convert it to a cakewalk file? If so what is the process? I promise I will read the manual just wanted to ask...

    Cassettes

Hi Just a thought on your layout on the tracks. It might be better to put the drums on trk 1 instead of two. Might stop any nasty bleed through. You now have the vocals between the drums and bass, two big noise makers. Just a thought

    My New 424MkII

Got an idea for ya! Since tape degrades and is subject to heat and magnetic damage, how about you dump the mixdown from your deck directley to a CD burner or CD mini-disc? I was in your situation and opted for the CD burner. That way you are saving you work to a higher medium than cassette tape...

    Drum Machine recommendations anyone?

I agree with Spin. I also have the Alesis SR-16. All he says is true. You can also find a beat you like then change to a infinate number of drum sets each with their own sound.

    Vocal Booth!

Go with the flushmount design. It's easier. A window is nice cause you can signal from your recording source. Remember those small romms get hot fast so do put some type of moving air source. Try to run this from a dedicated circuit so you don't get a bleed through into your power line to your...

    Live Recording

Just a thought. One night I was playing and we were videotaped by a friend. What was amazing was that the tape replay had everything balanced and pretty cool, even those loud pesky drums. The cymbals were also very good. Something to do with the natural compression of VHS tape I think.Sure it's...

    Small, cheap isolation booth?

Well how about that soon to be spare closet in the house. You line the walls with acoustic foam and voila. Foam does hold in the heat so yes you must vent. Go to the hardware store and purchase a bathroom exhaust fan to vent out the hot stale air in the closet. You can make you cut in the...
