    Drum room mic compressor

Would something as cheap as a DBX 166 or Alesis 3632 do it for this application?

    Drum room mic compressor

It is hard here to find second hand items, so the DBX163 is out of my reach. I would love to get a pair of DBX160, but at the moment they are out of my budget. The DBX166 is within my budget but I am not sure about its sound. The FMR RNC and RNLA are cheap for a stereo compressor. The ART PRO...

    Drum room mic compressor

I am looking to improve my drum sound by adding a pair of room mics to my setup. I noticed a huge improvement when people add room mics especially to the snare drum sound. Most likely I am going for the Chinese long ribbons. I have ART pro MPA 2 channel preamp for the ribbons. I am looking for a...

    Time to get another mic

I was in your position and I got the sE X1 and really like it. It was my first condenser. I got it after it was recommended to me to get a darker condenser to start. I was told that this allows easier layering of various elements in a mix recorded with the same mic. I used mine with great...

Which mic to record my acoustic guitar (untreated room)

I got a pair of Oktava MK-012 for less than €300. I recorded acoustic grand piano with great success. Also, sounded good on acoustic drums paired up with SM57s snare and toms /Sm58 and sE X1 and D112 on kick drum. I always recorded with them as a spaced pair (tried coincident pair but was harder...

    Double tracking vs Stereo guitar

When I started buying guitar gear I bought what I thought was good. Ended up buying most of the stuff again as it was a hit and miss as I was not experienced. Already not liking my most expensive mic, I am being cautious and asking for assistance trying to avoid mistakes. I tried it but I would...

    Double tracking vs Stereo guitar

Is recording stereo electric guitar by recording the same performance with 2 different amps (a Marshall and a Fender) going to give me a better sound in a mix than 2 performances with the same amp (double tracking)? Similarly, what is your experience with recording a spaced pair of on acoustic...

    Cymbals

I am a guitarist and started a home recording studio. My drum kit has the brass Paiste 101 cymbals. I am looking for an upgrade. Is the PST7 set good enough for studio or should I save for Paiste 2002s? My drums is a Yamaha Rydeen.

    Budget ribbon mics

I am interested in a pair of low budget ribbon mics, mainly for drum room duty, to add some magic to the snare drum. If possible but not necessary, I would like something that sounds good on guitar cabs too. I have to buy 'blind' as I could not find any in my country. The 3 most appealing are...

    Reaper and Focusrite 18i20 problem.

It says as follows audio system: WaveOut Input device: Line in (Scarlett 18i20) So if I were to change to ASIO I would fix the problem? Thanks!

    Reaper and Focusrite 18i20 problem.

I just bought a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 and Reaper tried to record using Reaper. I set the DAW for 18 inputs, but could only record inputs 1 and 2. The focusrite mixcontrol does recognise the input of inputs 3 and 4 but I could not get them in Reaper. Can anyone show me how to fix it? If it...

How does the beyerdynamic M88tg compare to the SM7b and MD421 II?

What I mean, I have SM57, SM58 and D112. Is M88 going to be an improvement over what I have or am I just getting another flavor microphone. Especially for vocals. I've noticed that the SM7b is really clear on vocals and there is a significant improvement from the SM57. Also, lots of people swear...

How does the beyerdynamic M88tg compare to the SM7b and MD421 II?

A lot of threads compare the Shure SM7b and the Sennheiser MD421, sometimes even the Electrovoice RE20. Those mics tend to fall in category of dynamic mics that yield a great sound on a vast number of sources. I do understand that each mic has its character and that 'the best mic' is subjective...

    Mixing Acoustic guitars

I was going to record the rhythm in stereo similar to what mjbphotos described. I was going to do this in order to spread it, thus, it does not compete with the vocals. I am not sure if I would be playing the lead stuff counter to the vocals, I may play 8th notes with a pattern that follows the...

    Mixing Acoustic guitars

I am going to record an artist and I am not sure how to go about his recording. I am going to have a drums panned left and right with snare and bass centered. The bass guitar also centered. A stereo recording of an acoustic guitar panned left and right and centred vocals with panned effects at...

    Recording the room

mixsit, I intend to use a lot of EQ and most likely high pass and low pass filters to get at least the snare drum punch. But I do not own any ribbon mics. Also, all my mics are cardioid patterns, so for a M-S technique I would have to get another mic.

    Recording the room

Thank you mixsit! Famous beagle, I do not have the luxury of a lot of mics to try. Most likely I would have to buy a mic for this application.

    Recording the room

Yes, I do have acoustic treatment, however, I do not have sound isolation. I have an 8 channel interface. Using 2 for the overheads and another 4 for close mics of a 4 piece drum kit, thus, I have 2 free channels.
