    New studio space...considering my options.

oh? You wanted to use it as a garage, too? I think you're out of luck, man. That overhead door won't do diddly squat for noise containment and you already been advised by the neighbor on the other side of the street about noise.

    My Studio

woah, cool thread. I've been watching my local CL and Reverb, waiting for the right Leslie as well. I didn't know about the kits that allow you to get the various speed. I was under the impression that was B-3 territory only. I passed over L100s and L103s for years. Back in the '70s, I had...

oh, wow, how cool is that? "How do those birds keep doing that every time I list ... oooh. Oh, wow"

    New studio space...considering my options.

*sigh* gazes dreamily into the distance "If only ..." You're living the dream, sir. I hear birds chirping outside of my music room. That's probably the window's fault but I wouldn't put it past the walls and grossly inadequate insulation of my house's 1962 construction. Ah, well, I won't...

inside corner walls with wallpaper - what to do

weren't there some recordings made of blues artists where they were facing the corner rather than sitting facing out? For some reason I'm thinking of Robert Johnson in a hotel room but it might have been someone else.

    hybrid signal flow

should work with only minor electrical fire and shock hazard. Just kidding:laughings: It'll work ok. good for getting your feet wet. Beware, the rabbit hole is deep and fraught with bewildering characters. I was there 30 something years ago and I still feel like a noob. Granted I wasn't...

Twitchiness of AI input gain control question

It's probably my direct recording technique but since I've gotten Logic Pro and can now see the levels with numeric readout, I've noticed something. When trying to dial in the input level, the AI input control works pretty smoothly up to around -22 dB on the mixer's readout. I'm trying to aim...

Can using a compressor while tracking w/mic enhance unwanted noises?

here I am worrying about using mic shields because of my untreated room. I've recently have become a believer in using compression before hitting the audio interface when I go direct. The improvement of my recorded sound has been significant. However, I have these beautiful sounding amps that...

Acousti-shields w/mic in front of guitar amp useful for blocking room sound?

    cool, thanks for the replies.

Acousti-shields w/mic in front of guitar amp useful for blocking room sound?

Just spitballing here, probably trying to justify spending money on an acousti-shield. basically a semi circular cylinder with a foam inner layer and a rigid outer layer (usually stainless steel or aluminum.) My music room is untreated and won't be until after the move to a new place. are...

    cumulative volume of tracks

I've also noted something else. When I first got Logic Pro and was experimenting with it by recording multiple tracks one after the other, I noticed the stereo output level kept getting higher and higher even though I was keeping the input gain and track level down in the -18 to -12 range...

    cumulative volume of tracks

thank you all very much. I did a 6 track test last night, purposefully dense. The difference made by turning down the input gain far exceeded my expectations. It doesn't look that different in the tracking section but having the mixer section with its metering made setting the input...

Just read this. Loved the analogy of the burnt steak. I was definitely absolutely having this problem.

    cumulative volume of tracks

Google wasn't much help in trying to find out what the meter in Logic Pro is using for a scale. It only says dB but is dBFS implied? Assuming it is, with my track fader at 0, I should be aiming for peaking to not exceed -12 dBFS, correct?

    cumulative volume of tracks

I bought Logic Pro the other day and have been experimenting with it. Pretty much the same things I've been doing with GarageBand. The level of detail is light years beyond what I've been doing and that's not a bad thing. I'm glad that I've mucked around with GB for the last 2-3 years because...
