Small Rooms -- Which is Better?

horrors, I hadn't thought of that. When i toured the mansions of Newport RI, there was one place, The Breakers, that had a 50'x50'x50' (15m x 15m x15m) Great Room, that I instantly fantasized about making a recording studio out of. You know, if I win one of those 1.5B dollar lottery jackpots...

New house, new studio space - Any advise Appreciated!

re 2."Are there such things as wireless monitors?" Are you talking computer screen monitors or audio speaker monitors? If the former, maybe an iPad or tablet that can pair with the studio computer might work as a remote stop/start device.

    Studio in garden cabin (Temperature)

nice little shed. What's the issue with the oil heater? Supply? Expense? Are you trying to keep it human friendly i.e. comfortable for you at all times or just minimally temperate? If you can keep it 10°C (50°F) when you're not in there, your equipment should be find. The act of heating...

    New studio space...considering my options.

I'm getting a greater appreciation for hardwood floor since I started tearing up the wall to wall carpeting my parents put in 40 plus years ago. Hey, it was the '70s, it was the fashion at the time. At least we never had shag carpet although I did campaign for it but was denied. Thankfully.

Does bluetooth technology warrant consideration when mixing?

I know already that people suggest listening to your mixes on various systems, what about bluetooth wireless speakers? I do not own anything in that vein yet so I can't speak for them. I've read reviews that mention compression as a natural compromise (pretty much the same as for wireless mic...

    Sliding glass doors?

it's been a long time but I think the studio I took some lessons in had two sets of sliding glass doors with about 6" in between them.

    Material Advice For Sound Booth

eh, 2 m height? Are you a dwarf or pygmy? That's not going to give much room for standing up in. If you didn't have at least 2.3 m of space to build this booth in I wouldn't even bother. Just the sheer logistics of trying to put a modular roof on top of standing walls, especially if it has...

How you deal with Heat in summers while recording - I switch off Fan but I have to AC

I've had PCs that started to be affected by temps in the mid 80s (29°C). As far as studio gear goes, I'm sure it can take a lot more heat than computers. Affordable A/C might be only a fairly recent phenomena but so are PCs in the studio. Probably part of the expense of a full blown studio in...

How you deal with Heat in summers while recording - I switch off Fan but I have to AC

timing is your friend. Plan what you want to record, get everything all set and just before you hit 'record', shut the a/c off. Unless you're recording grand opuses in one take, do your thing and when you hit 'stop', turn the a/c back on. If you just want to noodle and hope to mine some gems...

Trying to identify an intermittent noise caught by instruments pickups

Wait, I just figured it out. You're one of the unfortunate people with an AAP (Alien Anal Probe) that was sourced from a subpar supplier after the great distribution chain disruption caused by the 1987A Supernova. The Greys were almost forced to terminate their catch tag and release program...

Power conditioner and sequential power up

yikes. that admonition about the UPS sounds strangely familiar, I think I heard of it happening to someone I know. No, not me :D and yes, the old flickering while the circuit breakers in the mains system decide who's picking up the tab and who's (in)conveniently forgotten their wallet...
